Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’s lack of accessibility is turning us into muggles

Here’s the good news: there is a Wizarding World after all. Hogwarts, hippogriffs, flying broomsticks, the Ministry of Magic, it’s all real! A most whimsical, freeing, empowering, and inspiring reality exists for wizards and witches, and it’s closely within reach, accessible with a flick of the wand. For many who grew up with the Harry Potter fantasy, this is a dream come true. However, there’s also bad news: you’re a muggle, and this wizarding reality was only built for those with magical inclinations. That’s to say, the Wizarding World is specifically not built for you.  Awful, no? This was close…

The process of green screening cleans up your background, but green screens take up space and can cost time, money and energy to get right. XSplit VCam is an app that makes creating a seamless video background almost effortless — and right now, it’s on sale for just $19.99, almost 60 percent off from TNW Deals.

CHEAP: Crop recklessly with 42% off Sony’s 42-megapixel A7R III camera

Welcome to CHEAP, our series about things that are good, but most of all, cheap. CHEAP! When it comes to photography, I’m obsessed with framing and symmetry. I always strive to nail the composition straight from the camera, but it never hurts to have some extra pixels in case I need to do some cropping. That’s why there’s a special place in my heart for cameras with large sensors – like Sony‘s 42-megapixel A7R III. If you’re familiar with the conundrum I’m describing, you’d be glad know that eBay currently has a stellar 42-percent discount on the A7R III. You can grab one…

BBC’s English language lesson about cryptocurrency isn’t terrible

The BBC is helping non-native English speakers sharpen up their cryptocurrency language skills and knowledge with a 6-minute primer on Bitcoin. In today’s episode of BBC Learning English hosts Catherine and Sam discuss cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, and Facebook’s controversial digital currency Libra. If you’re a seasoned Bitcoin boffin, don’t expect to learn anything new. This 6-minute conversation serves as nothing more than an introductory conversation to the topic for non-English speakers to listen to and get to grips with some basic terms. The episode opens with a basic overview of cryptocurrency, where the word comes from and what it is. And…

Russia wants to boost transparency with blockchain – are you kidding me?

Aug15
by Sindy Cator on August 15, 2019 at 12:03 pm
Posted In: Around the Web, blockchain, cryptocurrency, Hard Fork, Insider

Russia, ruled by Vladimir Putin‘s arguably authoritarian regime, wants to leverage blockchain technology to host Moscow‘s administrative services and boost transparency. Essentially, the government is looking for a contractor to build an Ethereum-based system to host the issuance of property ownership documents, the allocation of slots at farmer markets, and wait for it: a voting platform which enables Moscow residents to have their say on matters such as locations for new bike paths, street decoration, and city events, CoinDesk reports. The estimated cost of development of such a system will approximately be $860,000 and will take around 60 days to build…
