Another day, another data breach. This time, the victim is adult website Luscious, which lets users upload pornographic images and animations behind anonymous usernames. But as it turns out, the promise of anonymity might’ve been misleading, to say the least. Security researchers from vpnMentor were able to exploit a kink in the adult-themed site to glean the personal data – including email addresses and countries of residence – of over 1 million users. The incident, the researchers argue, opens up Luscious users to a series of attacks, including phishing, doxing, and extortion. Among other details, the researchers were also able…

Google disproves Trump’s accusation of vote manipulation

Last night, President Donald Trump tweeted in his signature style accusing Google of manipulating 2.6 to 16 million votes in Hilary Clinton’s favor in the 2016 Presidential Elections. However, Google swiftly responded by denying all allegations made by Trump. Wow, Report Just Out! Google manipulated from 2.6 million to 16 million votes for Hillary Clinton in 2016 Election! This was put out by a Clinton supporter, not a Trump Supporter! Google should be sued. My victory was even bigger than thought! @JudicialWatch — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 19, 2019 In a statement, the company said it never altered search results…

A court in New York has denied Bitfinex and Tether’s parent company iFinex’s latest motion to avoid the legal clap back from its $850 million cover-up. iFinex claimed that the New York State Attorney General (NYAG) lacked the relevant jurisdiction to investigate the cryptocurrency exchange and stablecoin issuer as it claims it doesn’t serve customers in the state. The court didn’t see it the same way. As a result, the NYAG’s inquiry will continue and iFinex will have to provide evidence and documents at the request of the courts. “The Court finds based on the evidence and applicable law that…

Our robot colleague Satoshi Nakaboto writes about Bitcoin every fucking day. Welcome to another edition of Bitcoin Today, where I, Satoshi Nakaboto, tell you what’s been going on with Bitcoin in the past 24 hours. As Marcus Aurelius used to say: Time is money! Bitcoin price We closed the day, August 19 2019, at a price of $10,916. That’s a decent 5.46 percent increase in 24 hours, or $565. It was the highest closing price in six days. We’re still 45 percent below Bitcoin‘s all-time high of $20,089 (December 17 2017). Bitcoin market cap Bitcoin’s market cap ended the day…

Cryptocurrency fraudsters beg courts to return their luxury items, judge says no

Two cryptocurrency fraudsters in Canada are asking the courts to give their stuff back claiming the order to seize their assets had been granted improperly. The court isn’t buying it, and has dismissed their appeal, local news reports. Lisa Angela Cheng and Kevin Patrick Hobbs were facing a civil forfeiture lawsuit after allegedly running a $22 million (CAD$30 million) cryptocurrency fraud. The pair had been accused of fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering. The pair subsequently had their assets seized including two Range Rover SUVs, bank funds, and a luxury house that recently went on sale for $5.9 million (CAD$7.8…
