Just as expected, Apple has announced its next big event will happen on September 10 in Cupertino. It will almost certainly announce new iPhones. The invite gives little in the way of clues, featuring a stylized Apple logo and a cheeky ‘by innovation only’ tagline. But as always, a deluge of leaks and rumors have painted a strong picture of what to expect. From the rumor mill, we anticipate the new devices will be called the iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max. The Pro models will get triple camera systems with an ultra-wide-angle lens, the cheaper one will…

In an extremely short report, Returns noted that Microsoft is going to put its mixed reality headset, HoloLens 2, on sale next month. The report stated Microsoft’s VP, Harry Shum, made the announcement at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. It’s not clear at the moment if the company’s going to sell the devices to developers, businesses, or both. Both the commercial and developer edition of the HoloLens 2 costs $3,500. However, there’s an option of getting the mixed reality headset for $125 per month with Dynamic 365 remote assist that allows people to collaborate across locations. The company unveiled the…

This app uses AI to add a Pixel-style night photography mode to your iPhone

In the past couple of years, every major Android phone has had a night mode feature. While we might see Apple bring a night mode to its iPhones this year, it might be dependant on hardware. But an app called NeuralCam is trying to bring this feature to owners of current-gen and older iPhones — with the help of AI. The app’s sole focus is to take night-time photos. The good thing is you can run it even if you have a model as old as an iPhone 6. It takes roughly 10 to 15 seconds to complete capturing and…

Ring’s surveillance partnership with law enforcement is deeper than previously thought

Amazon’s Ring has finally come clean about its partnership with law enforcement agencies in the US. The doorbell-camera company — which was acquired by the retail giant in February 2018 — disclosed that it has inked deals with 407 agencies to “facilitate conversations around crime and safety among all members of the community.” The count has gone up by two since its announcement yesterday. This is significantly higher than the number reported by Shreyas Gandlur, an engineering student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, who pegged it at 358. Ring said it had created Neighbors Portal — an extension of its Neighbors app —…
