Facebook Dating is finally here. The social network launched the feature today in the US and 19 other countries, after announcing it last year at its F8 developer conference. The feature will be available to users above the age of 18 and, for those eligible, will appear as a new tab in the Facebook app. Importantly, you’ll have a separate profile for Facebook Dating, meaning your, uh, activities won’t appear on your family’s newsfeed. Once you sign up, you’ll get suggestions for matches as you do in any other dating app. You can comment on their dating profile or simple…

Google open-sources tool for companies that aims to keep personal data private

For a company that’s in the business of tracking users’ online activities, Google sure is going all out to prove it’s dead serious about privacy. To that effect, the internet behemoth is open-sourcing a library that it uses to glean insights from aggregate data in a privacy-preserving manner. Called Differentially Private SQL, the library leverages the idea of differential privacy (DP) — a statistical technique that makes it possible to collect and share aggregate information about users, while safeguarding individual privacy. This allows developers and organizations to build tools that can learn from aggregate user data without revealing any personally…

Apple Pay’s VP just called cryptocurrency ‘interesting’ — which is dumb

Apple Pay‘s vice president, Jennifer Bailey, has revealed her company thinks cryptocurrency is “interesting.” Wow, so brave. According to CNN, Bailey even double-downed on that fearless description, confirming that Apple thinks it has “interesting long-term potential,” whatever the fuck that means. Not only is that statement as bland as Apple’s branding, it’s incredibly vague. Which cryptocurrency? Bitcoin? Ethereum? A token picked at random from a shitcoin factory like Binance? Who cares! Cryptocurrency is “interesting.” Talk about disruption. Aside from being “interested,” Bailey said her employer is “watching cryptocurrency.” Again, in what capacity? Are Apple execs addictively checking Bitcoin‘s price, or is…

Welcome to TNW Basics, a collection of tips, guides, and advice on how to easily get the most out of your gadgets, apps, and other stuff. GIFs are great for punctuating your internet-breaking tweets and quick-witted replies to texts. It’s generally easy to find good ones by searching with a keyword — but if you want to be quicker and on point, you should try searching with an emoji instead. Just found out you can use an emoji to find a gif on twitter (from @1WiS3_Guy) and I’m shooketh. I know you were trying to go to sleep and all, but……

Last night, Nintendo announced it’s bringing a bunch of SNES games to its Switch Online subscription service starting today. The company’s introducing 20 titles at the launch, and more will be added later on. All these games will be available to Switch Online members at no extra charge. Plans for the paid subscription service are generally $3.99 a month, but you can save by signing up for three months or a year (the latter brings the cost down to just $1.67 a month). However, if you’re in Europe, you’ll be getting access to these games tomorrow. Here’s the full list…
