YouTube today launched its Fashion section, a new vertical alongside the likes of Gaming and Movies, crystallizing the importance of its massive beauty community. It’s also a convenient landing portal for some of YouTube‘s most advertiser-friendly content. According to the introductory video, the section is intended to be “the ultimate destination for style content that bridges both our fabulous endemic creator community and the more traditional worlds of fashion and beauty.” Thus, as you’d expect, you’ll find the videos from the official channels of big-name brands (at the time of writing, the main feature of YouTube fashion is a series…

The University of Guelph in Canada now offers an online cannabis cultivation course as part of its horticulture program. Finally! An education you can actually use. This fall semester the university will officially launch it’s “Cannabis Production” course geared towards both commercial and home growers. According to a press release, the course will be taught by postgraduate student Brandon Yep: He will teach growing basics, including lighting and irrigation systems, growing media, pest and disease management, and post-harvest curing and packaging. The course will also discuss aspects of botany, cannabis history, the growing Canadian industry and medical uses of the…

Focal’s new Chora speakers use recycled carbon fiber at accessible prices

Focal Audio might be known for producing some of the best speakers and headphones in the world, but the company hasn’t forgotten those of us that can’t spend $230,000 on a pair of towers. Case in point: Focal today announced the Chora series, a family of bookshelf and tower speakers replacing the company’s popular entry-level Chorus line, starting at $899 for the cheapest pair. Unlike most speaker companies, Focal creates its own drivers in-house, meaning it’s able to precisely tweak each driver for a given speaker model. The company created a new woofer material for the Chora line dubbed ‘Slatefiber,’…

Meet the brave devs trying to take Dogecoin beyond the meme

If you don’t get a warm, fuzzy feeling when you think about Dogecoin, you probably have a heart of stone. The truth is, though, that the developers of the world’s cutest cryptocurrency want it to be more than just a Bitcoin-like token featuring the Shiba Inu mascot. Dogecoin’s devs want it to be more than just a meme. With this in mind, Hard Fork spoke with developers Ross Nicoll and Michi Lumin to find out what it takes for Dogecoin to go beyond its meme status and their plans to build it into a legitimate cryptocurrency. But first, here’s some…

The Sonos Move is its first Bluetooth speaker, and it’s a little beast

Sep05

Portable Bluetooth speakers are probably the most common product pitches I receive, and therefore some of the products I least care to talk about. They’re so ubiquitous, they verge on being disposable, and few provide sound quality to compete with traditional speakers. But then I had the chance to check out the Sonos Move. Despite its $399 price tag, it might’ve just reshaped my idea of what a portable Bluetooth speaker can be. Yes, that’s right a Sonos Bluetooth speaker. If you’re wondering why that’s a big deal, Sonos has famously held out on the common technology because it finds WiFi a superior…
