Binance has said it collaborated with UK police to uncover a criminal who earned more than $51 million (£41.6 million) by selling phishing scripts on the dark web. The exchange shared the news in a blog post, stating that it had worked with the Cyber Crime Unit of the UK‘s Metropolitan Police Service earlier this year. The phishing scheme was orchestrated by a Bulgarian suspect, which targeted customers in at least 53 different services. Other criminals were able to purchase and use scripts to obtain personal information about customers by imitating legitimate companies It’s believed some 500,000 people were affected, most…

The sad and peculiar case of Satowallet’s alleged $1M cryptocurrency exit scam

Sep27

Nigerian cryptocurrency startup Satowallet has exit-scammed, making off with $1 million of its users’ money, reports International Business Times. According to company CEO Samuel Ben, however, the firm isn’t responsible for those losses. Instead, he says Telegram scammers tricked users into handing over access to their funds during an extended maintenance period. Ben also claimed the pesky scammers returned to steal more funds when Satowallet attempted to establish Know-Your-Customer policies earlier this year. Eventually, he firmly passed the buck to its hosting provider OVH, publishing rather peculiar claims in a blog. Unfortunately for Ben, Satowallet’s Medium page has been suspended,…

Waterfield’s leather messenger bag gives my gadgets the treatment they deserve

San Francisco-based bag company Waterfield has been in business since 1998, making a range of storage gear in small batches in the city. I’d heard of the brand and its penchant for quality over the past couple of years, and was glad to see for myself when Waterfield sent across its new Executive Leather Messenger bag. This is a seriously luxe affair, made of leather and built to lovingly hold your gadgets while you jet around the world. It’s exceptionally well made, so you can expect it to last for years to come. It also costs upwards of $380, depending…

The Redmi K20 Pro is my favorite ever Xiaomi phone

Last year, Xiaomi launched a sub-brand called Poco and announced a sub-$300 phone called the Pocophone F1. The phone packed the latest Qualcomm processor and sizable RAM in a plastic body. While it was great value for money, the company had cut corners in design and camera department to make it affordable. This year, the Chinese phone maker has introduced a new series – the K series – which dabbles in the same price range as the Pocophone F1, but sports a much better design and a triple camera on the rear on its Pro offering. I’ve been using the K20…

CHEAP: Light up your life with this Philips Hue starter kit for $55

Welcome to CHEAP, our series about things that are good, but most of all, cheap. CHEAP! It’s been a tough day at the office. You put your blood, sweat, and tears into your work, so you’re understandably drained. Normal people make it home by 6PM, but you work late shifts, so it’s already dark when you walk into your digs. You take your dirty clothes off and grab a seat, releasing a deep sigh of relief. “Ah, crap, I forgot to turn the lights on,” it occurs to you. Aw, how convenient it would be if you could just do that without having…
