Review: FluidFreeRide’s Mantis is a 40 mph e-scooter that feels as safe as a bike

Let’s get this out of the way: you probably don’t need a 40mph e-scooter. Barrelling down crowded city streets at those speeds is a death wish, and if you’re going that fast, you should probably be required to have a license and registration. But after FluidFreeRide let me try it’s new Mantis, a $1,499 vehicle I’d assumed to be complete overkill, I realized there are many legitimate reasons to want a 40 mph scooter. The Mantis’ powerful acceleration is incredibly fun, but it’s also simply built to a different standard than the cheap vehicles most people associate with e-scooters. Do you want…

4 ways your brand can take back complete control of its supply chain

The days of producing a product in one place are pretty much gone. If your product is even slightly complex, you’re probably sourcing supplies from a few different suppliers. And they may be sourcing from other suppliers still. These tiers of suppliers (tier one and tier two) are where most of your manufacturing issues and delays come from. Manufacturing in the modern era isn’t local — it’s global. When you’re sourcing one component from North Carolina, one from Mumbai, one from Shenzhen and another from Edmonton, issues, complications and challenges are inevitable … And you have to figure out a…

These free ebooks from Sonarworks are a godsend for studio engineers

The studio calibration experts at Sonarworks recently launched an ebook series aimed at helping musicians and engineers get the most of out their home studio. If you dabble in music production and/or recording, these free PDFs should be considered must-read material. There are currently two titles available in the series, “Successful Studio Set Up” and “Creation and Translation.” The first deals with many of the decisions engineers are faced with when building a studio – such as whether to use acoustic treatments and what kind of studio monitors you should use – while the second focuses on helping artists and…

Microsoft now lets you control your Xbox with the Google Assistant

Sep26
by Sindy Cator on September 26, 2019 at 5:51 pm
Posted In: Around the Web, gaming

Microsoft today revealed it’s collaborating with Google to bring the Xbox Action to the Assistant — meaning you’ll soon be able to control your console by saying “Hey Google.” With this update, you can command Google to turn your Xbox on and off, boot up apps, resume paused games, or take screenshots — all the good stuff. It’s basically the same thing as the Xbox skill currently available for Alexa. That means Xbox Ones now work with a large portion of voice-controlled devices currently on the market. As of the last major update, Cortana has been mostly scrubbed from the…

Venezuela may have Bitcoin and Ethereum, but it’s unsure how it can use them

Sep26

The central bank of Venezuela is reportedly looking into whether it can store cryptocurrencies in its coffers, Bloomberg reports citing four anonymous individuals close to the matter. According to the report the bank‘s investigation follows a request by Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PSDV) – the country’s state-owned oil and natural gas company – which is apparently looking to send Bitcoin and Ethereum to the central bank. The institution would then use the cryptocurrency to pay the oil company’s suppliers. It’s not known how PSDV came to own Bitcoin and Ethereum, or the value of its holdings, but it’s not hard to…
