It’s quite common to see ads that interrupt your videos mid-stream on the web. However, Chinese tech giant Tencent is trying something different – embedding the ad into an object right within the video you’re watching. For instance, if an actor is holding a cup of coffee, you’ll see an ad on the cup. Check out the mindblowing video below posted by Matthew Brannan,an analyst who focuses on Chinese companies. Wow! Worth watching this. China’s largest video platform #Tencentvideo (97M paying China subscribers) will begin inserting extra ads into movies/series that didn’t exist in the original. #computervision pic.twitter.com/qltsQz9jdF — Matthew Brennan…

Do you have a laptop or a phone with USB-C port? Then Google has got you covered when it comes to securing your online accounts and preventing unauthorized access. The internet giant has announced a USB-C Titan Security Key, manufactured by Yubico, that’s compatible with Android, Chrome OS, macOS, and Windows devices for $40. Titan Security Keys are phishing-resistant two-factor authentication (2FA) devices from Google, designed with an intent to cryptographically verify an individual’s identity while signing in to an online service, thereby defending users against account takeover attacks. Google already sells two other models with NFC and Bluetooth capabilities. But they were…

Chinese communist party’s app is reportedly spying on its 100M users

A report from the German cybersecurity firm Cure53 suggests the Chinese communist party’s app, Study the Great Nation,  has ‘superuser’ access to over 100 million Android devices. It notes the app has a backdoor through which the government can access messages, photos, contacts, and internet browsing history of these handsets. When a researcher at the agency inspected the app, they found coders have ‘deliberately used’ weak encryption in functions like mail and biometric authentication. Plus, it stores files on the phone’s storage in a way other apps can read data from them. This is dangerous if the government has other apps…

IBM today announced the 2019 Call for Code grand prize was awarded to Prometeo for developing a health monitoring platform for firefighters. The Barcelona-based team consisting of a nurse, a firefighter, and three developers will receive $200,000 and assistance from IBM and its partners to bring the project to life. Promoteo began as an endeavor by firefighter Joan Herrera. Realizing there were no systems in place to monitor the health of firefighters combating wildfires, Herrera and nurse Vicenç Padró began collecting data by hand. Eventually, they joined forces with three IT professionals, Salomé Valero, Josep Ràfols, and Marco Rodriguez, and…
