Elon Musk’s plan for sending people to Mars is probably a suicide mission

Elon Musk is a Cancer. If he’d been born a week earlier, on June 21st instead of June 28th, he’d be a Gemini. And that would make much, much more sense. Because, while he isn’t very crabby (Cancers are crabs, and that’s the extent of my astrology knowledge), he certainly is a two-spirited human. Musk plans on sending as many as 100 people – we’re not sure of the exact number, but his all-new ‘Starship’ seats that many – to Mars by 2024. This plan is ambitious and, in many ways, necessary. According to Musk it’s imperative we do everything…

Spoiler alert: Here’s how The Milky Way dies

Oct02

Posted In: Around the Web, Insights, Space

Our neighboring galaxy, Andromeda, is a cold-blooded killer and a cannibal to boot. In about 4 billion years it’s going to collide with The Milky Way, eat it, and litter the cosmos with its crumbs. This won’t be the first time it’s killed. We’ve known this for awhile, but a team of researchers recently took a deep-dive into data from the Pan-Andromeda Archaeological Survey – yes, there’s such a thing as a “galactic archaeologist” and it’s what I want to be when I grow up. These scientists – whom I can’t stop picturing as Indiana Jones-types wearing bubble helmets now…

Someone got Doom running on a McDonald’s cash register

Oct02

Just when I think I’ve seen everything, some gaming weirdness comes along and smacks me back down to humility. And it’s usually something related to that most ubiquitous of games, Doom. This time, a clever soul named Ryan Edgar has managed to get Doom to run on, of all things, a McDonald’s cash register. He revealed his results on Twitter, and it’s kind of beautiful: Ladies and Gentlemen I give you DOOM … …. ….. Running on a McDonald’s cash register. pic.twitter.com/kQhrkZ1ScV — Ry (@Raio_Ken) September 29, 2019 According to Kotaku, Ryan managed to get the game to work by using a USB stick…

Borderlands 3 review: Come for the guns and loot, stay for the heart and soul

Oct02
by Sindy Cator on October 2, 2019 at 8:07 pm

Borderlands 3 is like one of the vehicles from the Mad Max universe. It’s held together by duct-tape and twine, but it spits fire, looks cool, and goes really, really fast. And I almost refused to review it once I started playing it, but we’ll get into that later. Borderlands 3 feels like a tight, gonzo shooter. The controls are responsive and intuitive. As far as shooters go, once you dial in the aiming options you’re comfortable with it feels as good as anything out there. Each weapon feels unique and the combination of aesthetic differences and clever use of…

Facebook’s Libra cryptocurrency lead fires back at Wall Street Journal report

Oct02

Posted In: Around the Web, cryptocurrency, Hard Fork

David Marcus, the man in charge of getting Facebook‘s controversial ‘cryptocurrency‘ Libra off the ground, has fired back at a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report that claimed MasterCard, one of the project‘s backers, was thinking about potentially pulling out. Although Marcus didn’t explicitly deny the overall thread of the WSJ piece, he said that the initial (and official) group of Libra‘s partners “will be formalized in weeks to come.” 2) change of this magnitude is hard and requires courage + it will be a long journey. For Libra to succeed it needs committed members, and while I have no knowledge of specific…
