How tech is changing the real estate game

While technology has been an intrinsic component of real estate since the inception of digitalization, the terms are less often mentioned together when discussing their potential. Despite this, tech-related concepts appeared three times in the results of a survey performed by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the Urban Land Institute (ULL). These data were published in a 2018 analytical report entitled “Emerging Trends in Real Estate: USA and Canada.” The 100+ page document gives technology a section of its own, and makes it apparent that tech is one of the most underappreciated and underutilized tools in the real estate arsenal. Technology and…

Coinbase is shutting down GDAX to launch new ‘Pro’ cryptocurrency exchange

Popular cryptocurrency exchange desk Coinbase has announced plans to shutter its digital asset platform GDAX to launch the brand new Coinbase Pro which will cater specifically to crypto-traders. While both platforms will remain active for the time being, the idea is to phase out GDAX on June 29. The new platform will retain all GDAX functionalities – and introduce some new ones, of course. In addition to a smoother and more intuitive redesign, the platform claims it will also offer simplified deposit and withdrawal features, access to improved charts and historical data, as well as a revamped portfolio page. Needless…

Federal Judge rules Trump can’t block people on Twitter

May23

A Federal Judge today ruled that public access to Donald Trump’s personal Twitter account is protected under the First Amendment of the US Constitution. That means, if you’ve been blocked, the president of the United States of America is personally denying your right to free speech. Plaintiffs, including The Knight First Amendment Institute, alleged that defendants Donald J. Trump, Hope Hicks, Sarah Huckabee-Sanders, and Daniel Scavino violated their free speech by blocking them on Twitter for replying to @realDonaldTrump tweets with politically inflammatory comments: We hold that portions of the @realDonaldTrump account — the “interactive space” where Twitter users may…

Uber shutters self-driving car testing program in Arizona

Uber today announced it was shutting down its self-driving car test program in Arizona, this a mere two months after the company began investigating a fatal incident involving an autonomous vehicle and a pedestrian. What it means: For the 200 or so Uber employees working on the Tempe-based project it means a pink slip. According to a report from AZCentral, the local site that broke the news, the company sent notification early Wednesday morning letting workers know they’d be out of work within a few weeks. A little deeper: Uber isn’t killing its self-driving program. It’s set to continue testing…

Facial recognition company CEO explains why government surveillance is bad for privacy

May23
by Sindy Cator on May 23, 2018 at 5:37 pm
Posted In: Around the Web, artificial intelligence

It’s politics as usual in the US this week. The president is on Twitter complaining about the Federal government spying on him while Jeff Bezos is riding the Amazon cash-cow all the way to Surveillance-ville, Florida. Caught in the middle is the very idea of privacy, something Brian Brackeen, CEO and founder of Kairos, thinks is under assault. “Trump should be happy that the FBI was SPYING on his campaign” No, James Clapper, I am not happy. Spying on a campaign would be illegal, and a scandal to boot! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 23, 2018 Here’s the thing:…
