Hands-on: The BlackBerry Key2 has me unreasonably excited for a physical keyboard

After weeks of teasers and leaks, TCL’s Blackberry Key2 is finally official. If you have dearly missed a physical keyboard this is obviously the phone for you. But even if you’ve never cared about a clicky keys, the Key2 is compelling in just how different it is from the competition. It’s unique combination of features is making me reconsider my definition of a ‘powerful’ phone. The keyboard obviously means the BlackBery Key2 isn’t your typical flagship. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t feel premium. It features a metal frame that feels about as solid as any Apple or Samsung device, but…

Polyarc Games today announced the launch of a PC port for its critically acclaimed Moss, available now for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. It’s finally here: Polyarc Games released Moss back in February, but it was exclusive to PSVR. Gamers outside of the Sony ecosystem have been forced to bide their time waiting for the PC port, until now. And we’re happy to report that it was worth the wait. Not only is Moss an amazing combination of the puzzle and adventure gaming genres, it also features both first and third person exploration. Perhaps the biggest draw of Moss, and…

Lyft today announced it’s redesigning its rider app to put more emphasis on sharing your ride — and to remind you the bus is also available. What it is: Among other new features, Lyft announced it would offer more options for users to share rides with each other if they’re going to the same destination. The app automatically compares prices between the options. This new mode is a successor to Lyft Line, the daily carpooling feature that allowed you to ride with people going your way for a discounted price. According to its press release, the company plans to make…

Cryptocurrency companies realize they can’t fight the government forever

There has been a persistent cat and mouse chase between regulatory bodies and cryptocurrency businesses pretty much since the inception of the industry. But despite some initial reluctance, crypto-companies are slowly starting to show more interest in working with governments. In the US particularly, the cryptocurrency businesses are gradually starting to align themselves with regulatory bodies. Two of the largest cryptocurrency businesses in the US, Coinbase and Circle, recently announced plans to launch licensed cryptocurrency securities trading. The Goldman Sachs-backed Circle announced plans to seek a federal banking license in an effort to increase the services it provides, in an…

Researchers are using AI to save indigenous languages from extinction

Jun07
by Sindy Cator on June 7, 2018 at 2:55 pm
Posted In: Around the Web, artificial intelligence, Insider, Insights, world

43 percent of all spoken languages in the world are endangered and every 14 days another language dies. That’s the harsh reality, and the furious pace of digitalization is certainly not helping, seeing that approximately half of all online content is stored in English and Chinese. This quickly leaves indigenous and smaller languages standing with the shortest straw in terms of online presence. Australia is home to over 300 hundred indigenous languages. Out of these 300, only 140 languages are still spoken, and only 18 are taught to children. This means a hell of a lot of cultural heritage and…
