"Any artistic event that is subjectively judged in part by the accompanying music and style, is not a sport. Of course in the Winter Olympics, they overlook that due to the revenues Figure Skating and Ice Dancing generate from all those bored spouses who would otherwise not watch the Games at all." ~ Yasha Harari

Microsoft today announced it’s moving forward with production on a new Halo TV show, in collaboration with Showtime and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. Production is expected to start in early 2019 on a ten-episode season and will showcase the conflict between humanity and the Covenant aliens. Beyond that, we have no new data. We have no idea who the main characters will be, when in the timeline the show takes place, or just about anything, really. This reveal goes hand in hand with the E3 reveal of a new Halo game: Halo Infinite, about which we know even less than the series. If they were…

Nobody cares whether you want to own a driverless car or not

Companies such as Ford and Waymo are investing hundreds of millions of dollars in R&D for driverless cars despite indications that few people seem interested in buying one. Luckily for proponents of autonomous vehicle technology the future of transportation is about access, not ownership. Trying to replace people’s cars won’t work. Owners spend tens of thousands of dollars purchasing and maintaining machines which remain dormant 95 percent of the time because cars are embedded in our culture, and the driving experience is part of that. Any attempts to replace the status quo will have to come gradually. For better or worse,…

Instagram Stories – everyone’s favorite Snapchat rip-off – has launched a feature that lets you put music over your visual creations. We reported on this potentially happening around two months ago, but it’s set to roll-out to some users shortly. Over 400m people use Stories every day, so there’s little doubt this is going to be a popular update. It’s gonna change people’s lives. Want to put “Funky Town” over a video of you drinking a beer? You now can. Fancy placing “Funky Town” over your dog rubbing its arse on the kitchen floor? You go, girl! Recording your granddad’s…
