Amazon could be delivering to the Moon by 2023

Jeff Bezos is best known as the CEO of Amazon and the owner of the Washington Post. What many people don’t know, is that he also owns Blue Origin, a space engineering company that he quietly dumps a billion dollars into each year. And he plans on using that company to put people on the Moon within the next five years. According to reports, the company’s initiative to send a manned flight to the Moon, dubbed the “Blue Moon” project, is moving into the next phase and remains on target for 2023 or sooner. This isn’t the first time Bezos…

Apple registers new MacBooks and iPads, but don’t get too excited

Apple has registered new Macs and iPads with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), likely confirming what everyone is expecting: there’s new hardware on the way. When that hardware will arrive is anyone’s guess. The filing – first reported by Consomac – details 10 new model numbers, five for Macs and five for iPads. The former possibly indicate refreshes for the MacBook Pro and a much-anticipated replacement for the MacBook Air, which could simply be a cheaper 12-inch MacBook. Meanwhile we’re already expecting new iPad Pros this year with no home button, smaller bezels (allowing for an 11-inch display), and Face ID support.…

California democrats to reintroduce net neutrality bill. Here’s what you need to know

California Democrats today announced a deal to resurrect a Senate bill aiming to give the Golden State the most stringent net neutrality laws in the nation. The bill, SB 822, was thought dead on arrival just two weeks ago after the head of the Assembly Communications and Conveyance Committee (ACCC), Assemblyman Miguel Santiago, lead efforts to cripple it with telcom-friendly amendments. Senators Scott Wiener and Kevin de Leon are the original authors of the bill, or rather two separate bills (SB 222 and SB 460) that were combined to become SB 822. In its original form, it was considered by…

Nikon reportedly has two mirrorless cameras on the way this year and it’s about darn time

It’s the moment many a photography enthusiast has been waiting for: Nikon is getting serious about mirrorless cameras. At least, that’s what leak site Nikon Rumors is reporting. The post suggests Nikon is getting ready to release not just one, but two mirrorless cameras this summer, both with full-frame sensors (more on this in a bit). In fact, they seem to hit a number of key specs that could make them quite competitive with the current market: Both models are expected to be similar in size to Sony’s A7 cameras but “with better ergonomics and a better grip.” They will come with…

Facebook accidentally flagged the Declaration of Independence

Jul05
by Sindy Cator on July 5, 2018 at 6:49 pm
Posted In: Around the Web

Facebook took down a post containing passages from the Declaration of Independence, saying they were hate speech. It has since apologized — though the algorithm may have been justified in flagging the material. A Texas newspaper called the Liberty County Vindicator decided to celebrate July 4th by posting excerpts from the Declaration of Independence. The tenth post in this series, with paragraphs 27-31, was removed from the paper’s Facebook scheduling queue, with the paper being given the notice that it’d violated the hate speech standards. Facebook eventually restored the post, which Vindicator editor Casey Stinnet acknowledged in an article on…
