EOS block producers briefly crash due to RAM misconfiguration

Fledgling cryptocurrency EOS can’t seem to catch a break. Over the weekend, top block producer, EOS New York, took to Twitter to notify users that several other block producers had crashed due to a RAM-related complication. It appears that shortly after the overall RAM usage on the platform passed the 1GB mark, the nodes of a number of block producers – the EOS equivalent of Bitcoin miners – suddenly crashed. The malfunction occurred despite an agreement between block producers to support a maximum limit of 64GB. EOS New York has suggested the issue likely had to do with a failure…

This musical pillow lies between headphones and speakers, and it’s kind of a trip

Pillows haven’t fundamentally changed much over the millenia. They’re soft, squishy things you put your head on. But do you know what pillows have been missing? Sound.  Fret no more, for the $300 Flexound Humu solves this glaring omission. Fully funded on Indiegogo and expected to ship in September, it’ll allow you to fall asleep to the sounds of drum ‘n’ bass, grindcore, and mumble rap vibrating through your cranium. Seriously though, I found myself appreciating this musical pillow more than I expected to. Though it works great with music, it really shines with movies and games. And despite some qualms, it…

Bad old oil rigs could become good artificial reefs (we hope)

Oil rigs might be one of the most striking representations of the environmental damage our fossil fuel mad world wreaks. Still, according to new research from Aarhus University, oil rigs might have a valuable roll to play in the future. Published in Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment, researchers are urging governments to reconsider a law in which sea installations – such as oil rigs and wind turbines – have to be removed at the end of their lifespan, which can last for 20 or 30 years. The reason for this is that all the infrastructure needed to anchor the structures to…

People are VR’s killer content

Jul09
by Sindy Cator on July 9, 2018 at 3:06 pm
Posted In: Around the Web, augmented reality, syndication, virtual reality

Thanks to an almost inconceivable rate of progress in the virtual and augmented reality industries, technology once consigned to the fictional realm of Star Wars is now a fundamental of today’s reality. BDJ spoke with Steve Raymond, CEO of California-based 8i, about the VR and AR fields and where they are headed. We discussed the industry’s potential, and the ways in which we could achieve a “true” virtual reality. Can VR and AR really “humanize” or could they simply continue to gamify our interactions with the world and people around us? After all, if the human element is so important to content,…
