Hackers attack Utah’s online voter database more than a billion times a day

In the wake of former presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s decision to run for Senate in Utah, the state’s online voter registration database has suffered more than one billion hacking attempts per day. You didn’t read that wrong. According to Utah state elections director Justin Lee, the one billion attempts per day – that’s more than 12,000 per second – are the result of increased scrutiny on the state’s elections since Mitt Romney announced he’d run for US Senate in Utah, and subsequently beat out state Representative Mike Kennedy for the Republican nod. There isn’t much information on the exact nature…

Bethesda exec says he’ll stop selling Skyrim ports when we stop buying them

Well, it seems the person behind the perpetually re-released Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has my number. In an interview with GamesIndustry, Bethesda top dog Todd Howard addressed the common complaint that the company is perhaps a little eager to re-release Skyrim, and I have to admit the point is a good one: Even now, the amount of people who play Skyrim seven years later; millions of people every month are playing that game. That’s why we keep releasing it. If you want us to stop releasing it, stop buying it. Todd already trolled users over the company’s constant re-releasing of Skyrim by creating a trailer for the…

It’s been a tough year for tech billionaires – and it’s only halfway over. Being the good-natured people we are, we decided to help in the best way we know how: by contacting a cannabis expert and determining what embattled billionaires, and other stressed out tech workers, should be smoking to make it through the days. Our expert, Socrates Rosenfeld, is an entrepreneur in the cannabis sector and the CEO of Jane Technologies, the company behind iheartjane. His business provides online marketplace services to dispensaries – it’s like the Amazon of cannabis. We called him “the leader cannabis tech needs”…

Report: The Mac mini is finally getting an update after nearly 4 years

The Mac mini is the cheapest Mac, but it’s also the one Apple seems to care the least about. Case in point: the last time it got an update was October 16 of 2014. There hasn’t been so much as a spec bump in the four years since. That’s finally about to change according to Ming Chi Kuo, one of the most reliable sources for Apple rumors. He claims the mini is slated to receive an update this fall. Unfortunately, he doesn’t providemuch in the way of specifics. A processor upgrade is expected, but the report doesn’t say if the…

Facebook will let you use AR to ‘try on’ items in ads

Jul11
by Sindy Cator on July 11, 2018 at 4:06 pm

Facebook is rolling out a new ad format that uses augmented reality to encourage you to sample some of the products on display. The details: The ads appear similar to every other Facebook ad out there, appearing as a promoted tile on your Newsfeed — except they have a “Tap to Try it On” option (presumably with other wording if it’s not something you try on). When you comply, Facebook accesses your camera and proceeds to put an AR version of the advertised object on your person. The first company to test out the ads is Michael Kors, which allowed…
