Scotland will be home to the UK’s first spaceport, Britain’s government has announced. Rockets and satellites will be vertically launched from the spaceport, which has received £2.5 million (approximately $3.31 million) in funding from the UK Space Agency. Its aim is to cement Britain’s place in the commercial space sector and it’ll be built on the awesomely named Scottish peninsula, A’Mhoine. This is in Sutherland – located on the north coast of Scotland – which should be recognizable to anyone familiar with The Proclaimers’ “Letter From America.” Sutherland was chosen as it’s the best location in the UK to reach satellite orbits,…

Japanese chat giant Line launches its cryptocurrency exchange – but not in Japan

Months after announcing it in January, Japanese messaging giant Line has finally opened their new cryptocurrency exchange – everywhere except Japan and North America. BITBOX is now hosting trade in around 30 coins, sans fiat trading for the time being. No hint as to a date proposed to support local currencies, or even in which country they would be offered. They have interestingly opted for Tether (USDT) as it’s ‘stablecoin‘ of choice – mirroring other major platforms who operate primarily without the support of a financial institution. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Bitcoin Cash are currently the only coins with direct trade…

Rolls-Royce unveils its concept for a hybrid flying taxi

The race to launch flying taxis hotted up over the weekend, as Rolls-Royce revealed its interest in designing one. Fun fact: it’s not the luxury car brand from the UK that you’re thinking of. It’s actually the parent company that shares the same name that made the announcement. Besides owning a car brand, it also builds aviation engines. Rolls-Royce unveiled its concept for the Farnborough International Airshow 2018, yesterday. It reported plans for an “electric vertical take-off and landing” (EVTOL) vehicle, that could carry four to five people at speeds of about 400 kph for distances of about 800 km.…

Dear Elon Musk, delete your Twitter account

Jul16

Right, we’re done here. Elon Musk has gone off the deep end and called British diver Vern Unsworth – who was instrumental in recently rescuing a Thai boys’ soccer team trapped in a cave – a pedophile, after Unsworth balked at the billionaire’s idea of using a small “submarine” to help bring the boys back to safety. Musk’s accomplishments speak volumes about his business acumen, ability to drive innovation and lead businesses. But his tweets show that he is thin-skinned, reacts poorly to criticism, and straight-up picks on people when he feels he’s being attacked. What’s more, those tweets, which…
