Twitter locks your account if you change your display name to Elon Musk

In an effort to curb the cryptocurrency “giveaway” scam epidemic, Twitter will lock your account if you are not verified and change you display name to Elon Musk. Crypto-scammers and blockchain bandits are on the rise, and they will try anything to swindle unwitting victims into sending or wiring them funds – including pretending to be Musk himself. Twitter is growing tired the ever-increasing number of bots programmed to obscure their true identity and peddle fraudulent giveaway links. Typically, these bots will pose as Musk (or other crypto-celebs) and reply to legitimate tweets from the Tesla top dog, so they…

GitHub’s Learning Lab launches free courses on open source collaboration and HTML

Earlier this year, GitHub announced Learning Lab — a portion of the site where users can learn the fundamentals of GitHub, and get advice on how to migrate to the service from other platforms. This was a smart move from GitHub. Learning Lab is growing rapidly, both in terms of users and content, and the company yesterday launched four new courses on the platform. They’re all fairly self-explanatory. Uploading to GitHub and Migrating to GitHub both talk about the fundamentals of the service, and how you can add a new project, or port over an existing one from a rival service,…

Google’s new package helps developers use GoLang in cloud apps

Google unveiled GoLang around eight years ago, and while it’s one of the fastest growing programming languages around, it’s yet to really make any traction outside of a few niche areas. To try and change this state of affairs, Google has just announced Go Cloud — a set of libraries that makes it easier to build cloud-based applications with the Go language. Go Cloud offers a set of generic APIs for accessing common cloud storage tools, as well as MySQL support, and a more sophisticated web server that includes built-in logging, tracing, and health checking. Right now, the emphasis is on…

The latest “How Africa Tweets 2018” report by Portland, an international strategic communications agency, has revealed that during elections in Afrikan countries, over 50% of those tweeting about them are from outside the country where elections are taking place. The report, which is in its 4th edition, analyzed thousands of Twitter users to determine their location and profession. The analysis involves looking into the most influential voices driving Twitter conversations during 10 of the most recent elections in Afrika. “Our study is the first of its kind to systematically analyze which influencers are shaping the debate on Twitter during African…

This company changes the DNA of investing — through machine learning

Jul25
by Sindy Cator on July 25, 2018 at 9:51 am
Posted In: Around the Web, The next generation of money management

Using computers for online trading and investing is far from a new concept. From the earliest days of computing, machines were used to make financial calculations and analyses. However, recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), and more specifically, machine learning, have introduced new and innovative ways to harness computing power for better financial management. While artificial intelligence refers to the broader concept of creating machines that think for themselves, machine learning is a narrower field, which focuses on improving the way computers decipher the world around them. While AI is about creating consciousness, machine learning is about creating understanding.  …
