"The President of the United States pardoned the national turkey yesterday, in the tradition maintained on the day before the Thanksgiving holiday. Which begs the question, What exactly is the crime the turkey was convicted of, and how did he win such an invaluable favor from the White House?" ~ Laughzilla

Scientists hope AI will illuminate the mystery of dark matter

Nearly a decade ago scientists got pretty excited over a glow coming out of the center of our galaxy. They believed it to be gamma ray emissions resulting from self-destructing dark matter. Unfortunately, it turns out, the Milky Way’s glowing “bulge” wasn’t related to suicidal dark matter. It was probably just gas. A team of researchers from the University of Amsterdam and the University of Grenoble Alpes today published work indicating the glow is actually just a profile of the stars the bulge surrounds. According to the team’s white paper: We find that an emission profile that traces stellar mass…

Facebook is done dealing with Alex Jones

Aug06

Facebook today followed the lead of Apple, Spotify, and YouTube in removing four Pages belonging to Infowar‘s Alex Jones, claiming those Pages repeatedly violated Community Standards against hateful and dehumanizing speech. Notably, this comes after Facebook‘s head honcho said the site would willingly host controversial content including Holocaust denial. Within days of Jones’ lawyers desperately trying to convince everyone he doesn’t really mean what he espouses on his popular show, Jones has been summarily axed from several popular online platforms either over the weekend or today (Spotify had previously removed certain episodes of “The Alex Jones Show” last week and removed the whole show…

Welcome to the weirdly wonderful world of crypto-art

Art and cryptocurrency really share a certain bond: their value is just agreed upon – albeit subjectively. Long ago, society decided gold was worth something, mostly because it is pretty and kind of hard to get. It’s only taken about a decade for us to agree that Bitcoin is, at least, worth something. We’ve had even less time to decide what constitutes blockchain art. By the time you’ve finished reading this, though, you’ll at least have an understanding of where we’re at. Bling to match your lambo Jewellery making is surely an ancient art form, and one that, for better or worse,…

Bangladeshi government sends text alerts to warn citizens about fake news

In a text message sent to citizens, the Ministry of Home Affairs in Bangladesh dismissed reports of murder and rape circulating amidst student protests in the capital, as fake news. The protests began on July 29 after two students were killed and seven others injured by a speeding bus in the busy Airport road of Dhaka, the country’s capital. Over the next few days, thousands of students from various schools and colleges took to the streets blaming the government’s pathetic transport system for the frequent road accidents in the city. The protests, which were initially peaceful, turned violent as ruling…
