Facebook implements trust scoring for all users

Facebook revealed this week it’s trying to stem the flow of fake news by assigning trust values to users. It insists on keeping its criteria for trustworthiness secret though, in case untrustworthy people try to game the system — and they almost certainly will. Tessa Lyon, Facebook‘s product manager, told The Washington Post a bit more about the system, in which the company uses several flags to identify which people on the site are more trustworthy than others. It rates users on a scale of zero to one. The only judging metric she would admit to is a person’s history of reports.…

Hands-on: The Elder Scrolls mobile game is violent fun, but feels shallow

At this year’s Gamescom in Cologne, we got the chance to play a demo version of the upcoming mobile game from Bethesda, The Elder Scrolls: Blades. Anyone with a passing interesting in gaming will know The Elder Scrolls series. Hell, Skyrim – released first back in 2011 – is still getting ported to new consoles, something that doesn’t look like it’s going to end anytime soon. Still, despite the series’ success, it hasn’t had a mobile version, until now. Available near the end of the year, The Elder Scrolls: Blades will be free to download on iOS and Android. In other words, you can guarantee that there’ll be some hefty…

Android app scams users out of €335 in return for an Ethereum logo

There is an illegitimate “Ethereum” app that claims to sell you one Ether (the cryptocurrency derived from the Ethereum blockchain). Except it’s a scam – users are being tricked into buying a picture of its logo. A recent Tweet from malware researcher, Lukas Stefanko, has shown an app on the Google Play Store which claims to sell the buyer one Ether at a time, priced at €335 (nearly €100 more than Ether’s current market value). So far over 100 people have been crazy enough to buy the app, or perhaps they were wildly misled. I mean, look at who is…

Google Fit teams up with the WHO to help you shed the pounds

Google has updated its fitness tracking app Google Fit. The latest version contains a radical visual redesign, and an emphasis on helping users achieve their health and fitness goals. For this update, Google says it’s worked with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Heart Association (AHA), in order to better understand the science behind physical fitness and health. Google Fit now uses two activity goals based on WHO and AHA research, in order to push users towards achieving the right amount — and crucially, the right intensity — of exercise. The first goal, Move Minutes, is focused on…
