Google isn’t slowing down with the new blockchain tech. A few months after releasing Bitcoin support for its BigQuery database tool, Google has debuted a new plug-in for analyzing the Ethereum blockchain. Google has provided users with a new avenue for directly interacting with Ethereum data. Services already exist that show information about wallet addresses and transactions, but until now, investigating the full breadth of data stored on the blockchain has been a cumbersome process. BigQuery can also connect directly with the Parity client. Regular Chrome users are now capable of reading all of the data stored on Ethereum’s blockchain. Take, for instance, this fancy new chart. BigQuery can…

Japan is experimenting with a blockchain-powered voting system

Japan is the latest country to consider using blockchain for voting. Tsukuba is set to become the country’s first city to trial blockchain-powered digital voting. The system will rely on the Japanese equivalent of social security cards to verify voter identity. Currently, the solution is being used to allow citizens to cast votes on “social contribution projects,” the Japan Times reports. The system does not sound too dissimilar to conventional voting. However, rather than placing a mark against a relevant response for a vote and placing the ballot card in a secure box, voters will place their votes on a…

Apps are what make your mobile device useful – except when they up too much storage space, or even too much of your attention. Can’t live with ’em, can’t live without ’em, eh? Appscope makes it easy to achieve a middle ground of sorts: it’s a store for Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) that work in your browser, requiring no installation and offering a native experience so it’s almost impossible to tell you’re actually just using a website. let’s take a closer look at Appscope. It’s essentially a handy directory of PWAs that are grouped into categories, and it’s designed to…

Oops: Apple’s self-driving test car rear-ended in its first collision

Last week, an Apple self-driving test car – a kitted out Lexus RX450h – was rear-ended by a Nissan Leaf in the company’s first recorded collision in its trials on public roads, reports CNBC. The Leaf was traveling at 24 kmph when it collided with Apple’s Lexus as the test car was attempting to merge onto Lawrence Expressway South, in Santa Clara, California. While both vehicles were damaged, nobody was injured. The trillion-dollar firm has 66 test vehicles approved for testing in the state. The company isn’t keen on manufacturing its own self-driving cars, but is instead more interested in…
