Research suggests iPhone users, if given the opportunity, are more likely to buy the more expensive model Apple shows us tomorrow, and they’ll likely do so within a year of its release. The data comes from Mixpanel, an analytics company monitoring trends in smartphone adoption. It’s just released several graphs of data on the current usage of iPhone models, going all the way back to the 4. If nothing else, it’s a good history lesson to brush up on before the event tomorrow. But if you look at the data, you might be able to get some idea of just…

Report: Sorry, the new iPhones won’t come with a fast charger after all

We seem to know quite a bit already about Apple’s new iPhones being announced tomorrow thanks to months of rumors. One early rumor may have turned out to be wrong, however: it now seems the new iPhones won’t come with fast-charging out of the box after all. According to reliable apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo – since backed up by 9to5Mac – the new iPhones will ship with a measly USB-A 5W charger as always. That also means you’ll still need a dongle to connect to your newer, USB-C MacBook. To be clear, the new iPhones will almost certainly support fast charging,…

Amazon’s Show Mode Dock is a must-have for parents who own Fire HD tablets

Amazon’s recently launched Show Mode Dock is a revelation for Fire HD tablet owners – especially those of us with small children. The inexpensive dock basically turns a 7th or 8th generation Fire HD 8 or Fire HD 10 into an Echo Show. It serves as a charger, display stand, and visual interface for Alexa. The Echo Show has the appeal of a futuristic video-screen version of Alexa. It serves as conduit for information such as recipe steps, extended weather forecasts, and videos. But it’s not designed to be tossed into a diaper bag and whipped out in waiting rooms…

Apple will livestream its iPhone event on Twitter for the first time

Sep11

Apple has had a weird relationship with Twitter. It’s had an account since 2011, but never set a profile picture until September 2, 2016. A few days later, the company sent out its first few tweet – accidentally leaking the iPhone 7 in the process, about an hour before the event livestream. It then deleted those posts, and – despite having over two million followers – hasn’t posted another tweet in the two years since. That’s why it’s a bit surprising that Apple has decided to livestream its iPhone XS launch on the platform this year, as first reported by TechCrunch.…
