Ahead of the launch of LG’s V40 ThinQ phone – which boasts five cameras on board – the company’s already begun showing it off in South Korea. As you’ve surmised by now, there are three cameras on the rear and two in the front. You’ll also find a 6.4-inch display, and a reinforced glass frame for the body. The company also talked up the silky matte finish on the rear panel that it’s achieved by sandblasting the case, and said that it’ll not only retain its textured feel for a long time, but also resist scratches, fingerprints and dust. Oh,…

Here’s why millions of PC gamers still love their old 360 controllers

Valve revealed this week which controllers are the most popular of among its PC gaming audience. The winner, by a longshot, is an old favorite. Despite the conventional PC gaming wisdom that keyboard and mouse is “better” for certain games, millions of Steams players use controllers. Turns out the good-old reliable Xbox 360 controller is still the most popular. Over 27 million Steam users have registered one since 2015, despite the fact the console itself was discontinued in 2016. Personally, I use both my 360 controller and an Xbox One controller — my Scarborough Fair, specifically — with the latter…

Microsoft built AI to protect you from idiots that smoke at gas pumps

A lit cigarette burns at around 600-degrees Celsius (1,100 F). The auto-ignition point for gasoline is less than half that. Somehow, despite these facts, people smoke while pumping gas. In fact, it’s such a prevalent problem that Microsoft developed an AI-powered alarm system to help gas station employees crack down on offenders. It’s difficult to imagine the amount of idiotic hubris it takes to disregard basic thermodynamics, but some people simply won’t be bothered by certain doom. Those people are called smokers, and Microsoft’s Azure team figured out that some good old-fashioned cloud-based artificial intelligence at the edge was the…

One of the earliest rumors we heard about Google’s upcoming Pixel 3 was that it would come with wireless charging. Images of early prototypes showed off a glass back, and extensive leaks since then have all but confirmed the feature is imminent. Now we’re getting our first good look at what seems to be Google’s official charging stand. The leak comes courtesy of MySmartPrice, which says the device will simply be named the ‘Pixel Stand.’ It also indicates the wireless charger will be capable of fast-charging – by wireless standards anyhow. Android Police points out that the charger’s rating of…
