Google shares which Thanksgiving food tutorials are most popular by state

For all the Americans out there, food-heavy holiday Thanksgiving hits tomorrow. To commemorate the occasion (and perhaps rat out the newbie cooks in the country), Google’s released a chart showing which states’ residents are searching for Thanksgiving recipe videos on YouTube. The charts break down search traffic by different food types, such as turkey, stuffing, apple pie, etc. Then it shows where each state falls in the search ranking for that particular food. The information is probably not indicative of anything in particular, but I did notice that one of the Dakotas was consistently in the top-five for almost all…

It hasn’t been long since the monstrously wasteful hash wars began, but it already seems both newly spawned blockchains are running into potentially crippling technical difficulties. Shortly after BSV (nChain’s implementation of Bitcoin Cash) suffered from a bug that split its network in two, it appears that BAB (Bitcoin-ABC’s implementation of Bitcoin Cash) has rolled out a software update that puts its entire network at risk of 51-percent attacks from rogue miners. Understanding the vulnerability Under constant threat from rival blockchains, ABC devs introduced a special line to its code, changing how the network enforces trust in the transactions being submitted for…

Welcome to Plugged Basics, a collection of tips, tricks, guides, and advice on how to easily get the most out of your gadgets, apps, and other stuff. One of my favorite iPhone features is Low Power Mode. Seriously. For those not in the know, the mode saves battery life by reducing a number of processes, including email fetching, background app refresh, and automatic downloads. It’s been a lifesaver, especially if your phone has a substandard battery. Like mine. My ageing iPhone guzzles its way through charge like hungry hungry hippos gobble their way through marbles. This means I have Low Power Mode…

Siemens wants to change the way we share energy… with blockchain

Nov21
by Sindy Cator on November 21, 2018 at 1:08 pm
Posted In: Around the Web, blockchain, cryptocurrency, Hard Fork

Industrial giant Siemens is the latest corporation to make moves in the blockchain space. For the time being, the company is limiting its blockchain experiment to two divisions only: Energy Management and Power Generation Services. With this move, Siemens hopes to find new ways to store energy and develop a more efficient management system for energy networks. “Siemens aims to proactively shape the future of blockchain-based, transactive energy…
