How to stop Reddit’s annoying app download prompt

Welcome to TNW Basics, a collection of tips, guides, and advice on how to easily get the most out of your gadgets, apps, and connected services. Reddit may be the homepage of the Internet, but it desperately wants you to download its mobile app. If you browse the popular link-sharing site, you’ll no doubt be inundated with prompts to download and use the app. While I don’t disagree with advertising in principle, Reddit’s approach is really intrusive and aggressive. Fortunately, there’s a simple way to turn it off. When I say simple, I’m not kidding you. It literally takes just…

YouTubers demonstrate the easiest way to ruin Thanksgiving

Nov21

Thanksgiving is a time for food, family, and arguing politics with people you’ve blocked on social media but can’t avoid at the dinner table. This year, if things get too tense, we’ve got a suggestion: break out the turkey fails. There are few things that can bring people together during the holidays like a YouTube video that makes everyone, even the family members who voted the wrong way, feel superior. And, on Thanksgiving, that means watching people who lack a bare-minimum understanding of physics try and fry a turkey. First off, it’s apparent that a large portion of the turkey-loving…

5 lesser-known, yet highly effective ways to manage client relationships

Nov21
by Sindy Cator on November 21, 2018 at 8:20 pm
Posted In: Around the Web, Contributors

Back in the day, it seemed like there were really only two options to manage client relationships: face-to-face meetings and phone calls. While these client management techniques can certainly still prove effective today, there’s no denying that they’re not always the right fit — especially for e-commerce brands and others servicing international clientele. Just like you need to take steps to keep a remote workforce unified and on the same page, you must also ensure that your client communications remain effective, even when in-person service isn’t available. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways you can deliver quality results for your…

Does the new iPad Pro have a ‘bendgate’ problem?

Nov21
by Sindy Cator on November 21, 2018 at 7:58 pm
Posted In: Around the Web, Plugged

If you follow tech YouTube channels, you’ve probably heard of JerryRigEverything. A buff bald dude called Zach Nelson puts devices to the (admittedly unscientific) test by scratching their glass, setting fire to the displays, and – the most popular bit – trying to bend them in his bare hands. Apple’s new iPad Pro failed that test last week with remarkable ease, bringing back memories of the iPhone 6’s #BendGate sort-of scandal. Here’s that video if you haven’t already seen it. Skip to 6:12 if you want to get to the good part. The problem wasn’t that the iPad pro bent. Older…

Google shares which Thanksgiving food tutorials are most popular by state

Nov21

Posted In: Around the Web, Google

For all the Americans out there, food-heavy holiday Thanksgiving hits tomorrow. To commemorate the occasion (and perhaps rat out the newbie cooks in the country), Google’s released a chart showing which states’ residents are searching for Thanksgiving recipe videos on YouTube. The charts break down search traffic by different food types, such as turkey, stuffing, apple pie, etc. Then it shows where each state falls in the search ranking for that particular food. The information is probably not indicative of anything in particular, but I did notice that one of the Dakotas was consistently in the top-five for almost all…
