The French confederation of tobacconists is hellbent on allowing tobacco stores (tabacs) across the country sell special coupons for Bitcoin and Ethereum, as a way of keeping up with the times. Announced suddenly via local media, confederation president Philippe Coy declared between 3,000 and 4,000 tabacs across France would be permitted to sell cryptocurrency vouchers, starting next year. Coy explained bringing cryptocurrency to the nation’s tabacs was part of a greater plan to “transform” the industry, imploring his “grandfather’s tabacs” were no longer relevant to today’s digitized society. Coy claims new “software” will be installed across the country, allowing customers…

Don’t fall for the Black Friday-themed Bitcoin giveaway scams

It appears hackers were able to seize control of the email address of cryptocurrency exchange desk Uphold – and blast its users with a link to a Bitcoin giveaway scam. Scammers sent links to a phishing campaign, designed to dupe naive investors out of their coins. To fool users, the attackers disguised the fake giveaway as a special Black Friday deal. The malicious email was sent out on November 21 at around 19:50 UTC. Four hours later, Uphold sent out another email to alert users of the phishing attempt and warn them against participating in the sham “giveaway.” “THIS IS…

Do you absolutely hate YouTube’s pre-roll ads? Well, YouTube’s thinking about introducing two back-to-back skippable ads, called “Ad-pods.” In return, it’ll let you watch a longer video without interruptions. Currently, YouTube shows an ad while you’re in the middle of watching a video. So, instead of that, YouTube will show two back-to-back ads before the video starts, to provide a distraction-free video watching experience.   The company noted on the blog, that many users consider the frequency of ads breaks as an important video watching factor: Our recent user experience research suggests that in addition to factors such as the…

Two major South Korean cryptocurrency exchanges have been forced offline, after critical Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers suffered nationwide failure Thursday morning. AWS, one of the world’s widely used cloud services, was hit with major internal server failures that brought popular digital asset exchanges, Upbit and Coinone, to a screeching halt. Several popular e-commerce hubs were also unreachable for roughly an hour, reports ZDNet. “Between 3:19 PM and 4:43 PM PST we experienced increased error rates in the [Asian-Pacific region],” declared AWS. “The issue has been resolved and the service is operating normally.” Amazon maintenance details also confirmed networks in Seoul the…
