ASUS rethinks gaming laptop design with its inventive new ROG Mothership

I can’t help but rag on gaming laptops that feature loud design elements and over-the-top RGB lighting, but I can certainly get behind ASUS’ bonkers new ROG Mothership, which features a radical approach to cramming plenty of powerful hardware into a portable system. This 17-inch machine is kind of like a cross between an all-in-one desktop and a full-blown gaming laptop: place it vertically on a flat surface, and a kickstand behind the screen pops out to prop up the display. The company says this helps with heat dissipation, and negates the need for a liquid cooling system for its powerful…

Hard Fork is back up and running on all cylinders. It’s the first Moonday Morning of 2019 and that means that there’s a lot to catch up on. Let’s take a look at what we missed while we were away over the holidays. 1. It turns out that popular online game Fortnite’s foray into accepting cryptocurrency was actually all just a mistake. According to Epic Games developer and founder Tim Sweeney on Twitter, the company wanted to open a merch store, but somewhere along the lines Monero payment was enabled by the store’s payment processor. I guess we’ll have to…

The first renders of the alleged 2019 iPhone feature a hideous 3-camera setup

We’re just over a week into 2019, and alleged renders of the next iPhone have already leaked. Tipster OnLeaks and Digit India published a bunch of renders yesterday of what might be the iPhone XI, which you can see above and below. The pictures show a triple camera setup – a first for the iPhone lineup – in a square on the back of the phone. While the square lockup might remind you of Huawei’s recent Mate 20 Pro, the arrangement of lenses and the position of the square are different. Frankly, I think the setup looks ugly and doesn’t…

At CES in Las Vegas today, Samsung unveiled its fresh take on gaming laptops, the Notebook Odyssey, with top-end hardware and and a more discreet look than others in this segment. The Notebook Odyssey (which is actually the latest in Samsung’s gaming lineup of the same name) packs an all-new Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card that supports ray tracing, along with an 8th-gen Intel Core i7 chip, 16GB RAM, and 256GB of SSD storage, as well as a 1TB HDD. The 15.6-inch Full HD display supports G-Sync to prevent screen tearing, and a 144Hz refresh rate for smoother motion…

In a surprise announcement, rivals Samsung and Apple decided to team up and bring the iTunes movies and TV Shows app to Samsung’s Smart TV range in 100 countries. According to the announcement, iTunes will be pre-loaded on Samsung‘s smart TVs launching this year, and a firmware update will bring the app to TVs from 2018.
