Harley-Davidson debuts its all-electric ‘LiveWire’ motorcycle at CES

Harley-Davidson today announced that it has started taking pre-orders for its first all-electric motorcycle, the LiveWire. For automakers, it’s a mad dash to the finish line in an attempt to compete with the likes of Tesla, BMW, Volkswagen and others. For Harley-Davidson, it’s about facing technological challenges — two wheels and a smaller chassis, for starters — while being able to convince its base that this is the same bad-ass machine they’re accustomed to, only better. Harley-Davidson, now more than 100 years old, is an iconic American company, after all, one known for its cultural ties to outlaws and the…

Sonarworks brings its pro studio sound to smartphones

One of the coolest audio products I tried last year wasn’t a pair of headphones or speakers, but software. Sonarworks’ True-Fi uses sophisticated calibration technology to tweak your headphone’s sound to match the accurate, flat sound of speakers in a professional recording studio, and it really works. Sonarworks literally invited me to Flux Studios in Manhattan to show off its tech. I’ll just quote myself: First I listened to a track…

LG’s rollable TV was one of the coolest things we saw at CES last year. In case you don’t remember, it was a 65-inch OLED panel that was able to literally roll into a slim base at the touch of a button, hidden from sight until needed. Back then, it was just a cool prototype, but now it’s the real deal: LG plans on selling the TV beginning this March. It’s officially dubbed the LG Signature OLED TV R. Aside from being able to fold up out of sight, there’s a practical movie-watching benefit too: getting rid of letterboxing. Though most modern…

JBL’s Android TV soundbar will ship this spring, maybe, finally, supposedly

Way back in May we reported on what was one of the cleverest gadgets we’d seen in a while: the JBL Link Bar, a soundbar that doubles as an Android TV box. It’s a supremely sensible mash-up, and we were excited to see how it worked out in practice. Problem is, it was supposed to launch in the fall of 2018, which has obviously come and gone. I worried it had just faded into vaporware, but today JBL announced the Link Bar will arrive this spring. Granted, that’s just as vague a release date as before, but it seems the company…
