Quotable

"The network news shows dedicated twenty times more coverage to Tiger Woods' affairs than they did to the Climategate scandal. They figure now that the cat is out of the bag, it's less interesting to nail cagey lying scientists with punchlines than it is to cage the big cat lying down with his club and females. The big bro.ad.cast media can't see the climate change forrest for the Woods." ~ Laughzilla

Weiss Ratings: EOS is the best cryptocurrency, then Ripple, and THEN Bitcoin

A division of finance mainstay Weiss Ratings has today put prominent altcoins EOS and Ripple (XRP) alongside Bitcoin as the top three “cryptocurrencies” on the market — and it’s sure to rustle some feathers. Digital asset ratings unit Weiss Crypto Ratings studied 122 cryptocurrencies across the market using a variety of metrics. The report seeks to dispel what it describes as a misunderstanding amongst observers who “seem to assume there’s been an industry-wide decline in usage and practical applications.” “Nothing could be further from the truth,” declared Weiss. “Leading cryptocurrencies now enjoy three times more volume in user (on-chain) transactions than they did in…

Bitmain’s dreams to go public slashed after IPO filing lapses

Bitmain’s hopes for an initial public offering (IPO) have been slashed after the cryptocurrency firm’s application to list on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange officially expired. Its application officially lapsed on Tuesday, six months after it was first submitted. The company, which specializes in designing microchips to mine cryptocurrency and work alongside AI applications, said on its website: We do recognize that despite the huge potential of the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry, it remains a relatively young industry which is proving its value. We hope regulatory authorities, media, and the general public can be more inclusive to this young industry. Founded…

TNW2019 Daily: We have a ferris wheel!

Mar26
by Sindy Cator on March 26, 2019 at 12:54 pm
Posted In: Around the Web, Events, Insider

I have very exciting news today: the official TNW2019 terrain map is here! It’s over 40,000-square-meters, with tons of new venues and a ferris wheel. I’m so down for this – or rather, I’m so up for this. With only 44 days left until TNW Conference kicks off, let’s dive into all the best parts of the map. On May 9 and 10, you’ll see it for yourself – but it’s fun to get a sneak peek. Bigger and better Last year’s conference was really special. It was held at Westerpark in Amsterdam, and it felt like the festival terrain went…

PAX wants to be the Apple of weed vapes – and CBD might be the key

Mar26

I’ve had the pleasure of testing a number of very good weed vapes. But, when I’m finished with my review, more often than not, I return to the PAX 3. Basically, I like it a lot. So, when I was offered the chance to speak with JJ O’Brien, PAX’s VP of strategy, in Amsterdam, I leapt at the chance. I mean, who wouldn’t? Let’s start with the basics. O’Brien has been at PAX for two-and-a-half years. He joined when the company launched its Era business, which is a pen-and-pod style device that you smoke cannabis oil with. But what the company is best…
