Facebook sets aside billions to pay its way through privacy issues

Facebook may be reeling from a string of privacy disasters, but in terms of sheer usage, the social network continues to be unstoppable in its quest for growth. And in its latest earnings report, the company has revealed that it’s happy to throw money at anything that stands in its way. For the quarter ending March 2019, Facebook said it reached 2.38 billion monthly users and 1.56 billion daily active users, pulling over $15.08 billion in revenue. That’s a 26 percent increase YoY, indicating that Facebook still has a chance to grow its user base in these difficult times. The…

Samsung supposedly looking to launch its own Ethereum-based blockchain and token

Samsung is reportedly looking to develop its own proprietary blockchain network as well as its own token some time in the future. According to an exclusive CoinDesk Korea report, which cited a person “familiar with Samsung’s internal situation,” the South Korean electronics giant’s blockchain task force is building an Ethereum-based blockchain mainnet. To manage expectations, though, the development is said to be at the “internal experimental” stage, which means we’ll likely have to wait to see a solution out in the wild. “Currently, we are thinking of a private blockchain, though this is not yet confirmed. It could also be…

Lil Pump now accepts Bitcoin on his merch store (but will he dump it?)

In a move that’s sure to make some Bitcoin hodlers happy, Columbian-American rapper, Lil Pump, is now accepting the cryptocurrency as a payment method on his online merch store. He’s a millionaire that doesn’t know how to read, but it hasn’t stopped him from offering customers the opportunity to pay either “on chain,” or “off chain” through the Lightning Network. While news of the integration is making headlines, it’s unclear when the Harverd Dropout officially started accepting the cryptocurrency. The Bitcoin payment integration seems pretty slick actually. Esskeetit and take a look. Shopping is pretty simple, pick out what piece…

Focal Stellia Review: $2,999 headphones you’ll want to risk bringing everywhere

Apr25

I haven’t heard every closed-back headphone on the market, but I’ve heard more than most people. The Focal Stellia is the most expensive one I’ve tried yet, so it’s a good thing it makes a serious case for becoming my favorite. At least, it might be the best full-size headphone I’ve heard that you could feasibly bring on your commute, aboard an airplane, or to the gym – assuming you don’t mind risking your $2,999 headphones. As you might know, the very best headphones traditionally feature an open back design that lets ambient noise in and leaks your music out. Most…

China’s dating apps are experimenting with livestreamed matchmaking

Apr25

China’s largest date-to-marry matchmaking apps are experimenting with leveraging live-streaming to help users find love, with mixed results. Back in January, industry powerhouse Shijijiayuan 世纪佳园 launched a streaming video feature meant to facilitate live conversation between multiple participants, a sort of talk show where app users are both the hosts and the audience. Confused? We’re not surprised. There’s nothing like it in the western app space, so here’s a quick breakdown of the feature flow: 1. “James” opens a chat room and sets a topic, and in turn, automatically becomes the room’s first host. He waits for another person to…
