American senator pleads for children’s protection in anti-lootbox bill

American government officials have finally taken their shot at video game lootboxes. Specifically, Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri announced his intention to introduce the “The Protecting Children from Abusive Games Act” to the US Senate. This is the culmination of slow-burning anti-lootbox sentiment that’s bubbled up from the gaming community over the course of the last year-and-a-half. Ever since games like Battlefront II and Middle Earth: Shadow of War took lootboxes and in-game purchases from just “occasionally-overpriced bling” to “pay-to-win garbage,” those who regulate fair trade have begun to sit up and take notice. Since then, the issue has been studied in numerous…

Elon says Tesla will field 1M fully autonomous robo-taxis by 2020 – AI experts call BS

Elon Musk, the PT Barnum of tech, is currently getting a ration of ridicule from some of the world’s foremost leading AI experts over his ridiculous claim that Tesla will field a million fully autonomous cars by 2020. If there are a million Tesla robo-taxis functioning on the road in 2020, I will eat them. Perhaps @rodneyabrooks will eat half with me? https://t.co/NEVnU4Jjgy — Kai-Fu Lee (@kaifulee) May 8, 2019 Musk, as his oddly sycophantic followers are prone to point out every time he’s criticized, is a big-picture kind of guy. So, it came as no surprise when he told…

Lawyers are trying to figure out who to sue in the event of an asteroid impact

If you or a family member were struck by an asteroid, you may be entitled to compensation. Call the law offices of Jones, Anderson, and Leibovitz to see if you qualify. It’s hard to imagine a world so litigious that an extinction-level event could generate a lengthy and expensive court battle. Yet here we are. And once you get over the initial shock of the concept, it actually makes far more sense than I want to give it credit for. The issue, according to Cosmos: One problem is what would happen if one country, worried about protecting its own citizens,…

The $1599 Naim Mu-so 2 aims to be the ultimate all-in-one wireless speaker

High-end audio is catching up to the times. Where once audiophiles might scoff at wireless speakers, now industry stalwarts like Bowers and Wilkins, KEF, and others are exploring the convenience of streaming music and all-in-one systems. But one of the first of these was Naim’s Mu-so, a streaming speaker that showed the world such a device could be convenient and worthy of critical listening. Now there’s the Mu-So 2, turning everything up a notch. That includes the price, jumping from $1000 to $1,600, but Naim obviously thinks the revamped hardware is worth it. I had a chance to go hands-on, and…
