Facebook today rolled out a new feature for getting more information about other people on the social network. Now, when you go to another person’s profile on mobile (iOS and touch-enabled browsers), you may see “things that are relevant to you” at the top, including that individual’s workplace, hometown, and mutual friends. While the new feature didn’t make it into Facebook for Android, it does work in “all mobile browsers for smartphones,” a Facebook spokesperson told TNW, though the company has “nothing to share at this time around a date.” The addition isn’t a huge one, though it does show…

Microsoft today updated Bing with a number of new features and refinements to help you navigate from point A to point B. The search engine will now show your estimated travel time, mileage and a small thumbnail of a suggested route whenever you search for driving directions. So whether it’s “directions from New York City to Boston” or “from Bellevue, WA to Tacoma, WA,” Bing will offer some context about your journey. When you select the map thumbnail or “turn-by-turn directions” link, Bing will serve up a detailed plan of your route with a full breakdown of the directions. The…

Climate Protection - Photo Illustrations
An Industry Committee of MEPs have today voted to approve a controversial plan that could allow service providers to prioritize certain types of traffic as long as it doesn’t degrade access to other rival services. The decision comes as part of a package of measures that includes ensuring that mobile roaming costs would be banned by December 15 2015 – although MEPs are now calling for the European Commission to lay down guidelines for “exceptional cases in which companies would be allowed to apply charges” to protect against “anomalous or abusive usage of retail roaming services”. The potentially more worrying part of…

Google Chromecast listed on PC World and Currys for £30, pointing to imminent UK launch

It looks like Google Chromecast will soon be available in the UK. Retailers PC World and Currys have started listing the tiny streaming dongle on their respective online stores for £30. At the time of writing, Currys is listing Chromecast as “out of stock” and PC World is offering it only as a product that can be collected in-store. Home deliveries are currently unavailable on both sites, although if recent rumors are anything to go by, that’s likely to change fairly soon. At SXSW, Sundar Pichai, senior vice president for Android, Chrome and Google Apps, said Chromecast would be coming…
