While modern smartphones, tablets and all kinds of other devices offer up a world of possibilities, they all require one thing – power. They mostly share a common trait too, they’re generally not that power-efficient and can burn through a full charge in what seems like no time at all – this is certainly true for a lot of the power-hungry high-end smartphones you can buy today. It’s no surprise then that there are a wealth of portable battery chargers (like the Satechi 10000 mAh or the Fluxmob) on the market promising to keep your devices fully juiced when you’re away from…

American media behemoth The Tribune Company (‘Tribune’) has launched an interesting new service that lets you audio-stream text-based stories from online newspapers. Newsbeat actually comes courtesy of Tribune Digital Ventures, the technology and innovation arm of Tribune that launched last May. The core raison d’être of Newsbeat is to “reimagine news for mobile”, using human voiceovers and text-to-speech technology. Available for Android and iOS, Newsbeat says it will stream up to seven thousand stories each day from across the Web. While it does have a US-centric content offering, it also serves up global news tidbits too, though you can’t indicate…

tumblrimg-645x245
Viacom today struck an exclusive advertising partnership with Tumblr to serve “co-branded content campaigns” with its partners across the blogging platform during the upfront season. The deal will give Viacom the ability to publish a range of custom content promoting cable networks such as MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1, CMT, COMEDY CENTRAL, TV Land and Spike on Tumblr. It’ll kick off next month with the 2014 MTV Movie Awards, where Viacom plans to put up related images, videos, GIFs and other interactive content before, during and after the show. It’s the first advertising partnership that Tumblr has signed with a television programmer, and Viacom…

shopping in store tablet
Smart marketers know that offline marketing techniques like in-store promotions, events, and free samples are powerful techniques for delighting customers and driving sales. The challenge? There’s limited data to prove it. Meanwhile, the Internet has spoiled us. Thanks to tools like Google Analytics and KISSMetrics, we have more data than we can handle – we can track everything from lifetime value to user acquisition costs, and acquisition models. We laugh at brick-and-mortar and call it “old school,” making absurd claims that online mega-conglomerates are making our favorite stores obsolete. The days of the shopping mall are dead, right? Not so…

QuizUp finally arrived for Android on March 6, four months after it arrived for iOS. And while it may be little surprise to many, it looks like its arrival on Google’s mobile operating system is boosting its uptake significantly. While it garnered 10 million users in two months on iOS, the Icelandic startup behind the QuizUp, Plain Vanilla Games, has revealed it notched up one million downloads in the week after its launch. It’s now averaging around 100,000 new registered users each day, and claims a total of 12.5 million registered users across iOS and Android. QuizUp follows the likes…
