Quip, the collaborative word processing app for Android and iOS devices from ex-Facebook CTO Bret Taylor, has been updated today to add new social features. Given Taylor’s background, and the general proliferation of Like buttons around the Web, it’s perhaps not too surprising to see the introduction of a ‘Like’ button, which can be used to like edits as well as messages. The team described the update as “the most significant release we’ve had since we launched seven months ago” and in addition to Liking things, users now have the ability to leave a comment (apparently one of the most…

Google today announced it has made security improvements to Gmail to further protect users’ emails from snooping. Google promises that now “no one can listen in on your messages as they go back and forth between you and Gmail’s servers.” This means that…

Dwindling Newspaper Sales Echo Through Economy
This post originally appeared on the Buffer blog and has been republished with permission. There is no one way to create viral content. So many different variables go into a viral post—timing, emotion, engagement, and so many others that you cannot control. There is no viral blueprint. The greatest chance we have to understand viral content is to study the posts and places that do it best, figure out what worked for them, and try it for ourselves. Thanks to some incredible work by the team at Ripenn, we have access to headline analysis from four of the top viral sites on the…

Pinterest, the service that helps you bookmark, organize and share inspiring images as curated pinboards, is now available in Hindi. Under account settings, you should now be able to pick the new language option from the drop-down menu near the top of the page. This will affect almost all of the typography across the Pinterest site, including links, the navigation menu and other options. Pin captions, user-submitted comments and pinboard titles will continue to be shown in their original language, however. Hindi is one of the most popular languages in the world, making the top five in the 2007 edition…
