Microsoft is investigating a new remote code execution vulnerability in Microsoft Word. The company has issued a security advisory after confirming reports that the flaw is being exploited as part of targeted attacks against Word 2010. The company has found that the vulnerability affects all supported versions of Microsoft Word. The flaw in question makes remote code execution possible if you open a specially crafted RTF file using an affected version of Word, as well as if you preview or open a specially crafted RTF email message in Outlook while using Word as the email viewer (Word is set as…

Apple today updated its iOS adoption numbers, as measured by usage of its App Store and presented on the support page for developers. iOS 7 has now hit the 85 percent mark while iOS 6 has slipped to 12 percent. It appears Apple is currently including iOS 7.1 in the iOS 7 category, so unfortunately we don’t have official numbers on how the latest version of the company’s mobile operating system is being adopted. Apple first reported iOS numbers based on App Store usage on December 1, 2013, when 74 percent of users were on iOS 7, 22 percent were…

Shooting video is a challenge because its very flexibility is often a liability: cinematic freedom comes at a time consuming, complex price. Inevitably you shoot too much, like too little, and consume hours attempting to salvage bad footage. Sometimes you wish you could just start all over again. That’s at least part of the concept behind reShoot, a free iOS video shooting, editing, and sharing app just released from Wally World Media. reShoot is designed to help mobile videographers of all skill levels get the most out of what they shot, and offer more opportunities to fix mistakes and insert footage on…

Google Now has finally arrived on the desktop. Google today announced Google Now is being pushed to the Chrome stable channel for Windows and Mac “starting today and rolling out over the next few weeks.” This means Google Now notifications will finally be available to desktop and laptop Chrome users, in addition to Android and iOS users. To turn the feature on, all you need to do is sign in to Chrome with the same Google Account you’re using for Google Now on mobile. If you use Google Now on multiple devices, you will need to manage your location settings…

Yahoo Screen arrives on Roku, lets you watch SNL clips, news, music and Yahoo originals on your TV

Mar24

Yahoo Screen is now available as a Roku channel, following its roll-out on Apple TV and iOS last year. As with its other incarnations, Yahoo Screen is designed to give people easy access to shows such as Saturday Night Live, The Colbert Report and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, as well as live news, music and Yahoo’s original TV shows. Roku is one of the most popular set-top boxes for streaming content over the Web, so it’s somewhat logical that Yahoo has targeted its hardware after Apple’s ecosystem. It’s available on Roku 1, 2 and 3 boxes starting today…
