Quotable

"The network news shows dedicated twenty times more coverage to Tiger Woods' affairs than they did to the Climategate scandal. They figure now that the cat is out of the bag, it's less interesting to nail cagey lying scientists with punchlines than it is to cage the big cat lying down with his club and females. The big bro.ad.cast media can't see the climate change forrest for the Woods." ~ Laughzilla

SWEDEN-FACEBOOK-DATA-CENTER-SERVERS
Keeping up with hackers and other threats on the Web is a never-ending challenge, in particular for large businesses such as Facebook. To that end, Mark Zuckerberg’s company today unveiled a security-focused framework called ThreatData, which aims to simplify and standardize its work in this area. The new approach enables Facebook to configure feeds from select datasets that it believes are important to capture. The information can be in any format and once collected, it’s fed into a schema coined a ThreatDatum. “The datum is capable of storing not only the basics of the threat but also the context in which…

Unless you’re a professional scuba diver, chances are you’ve never explored an underwater shipwreck first-hand. Fear not though, as Google Street View has been updated with some sublime photos from the sunken USS Mohawk. The panoramic, 360-degree images were submitted by Trident Global Imaging, who last year set out to create a virtual tour of the 165-foot vessel. The World War II Coast Guard cutter was launched in 1934, but was then purposefully sunk in 2012 to create an artificial veteran’s memorial reef. The photos offer incredible clarity and allow you to move around the bridge, crow’s nest, port and…

comScore: Google is once again the most-trafficked US desktop site, ends Yahoo’s seven-month streak

comScore today released its top 50 US Web properties for February 2014. While Yahoo has been dominating Google for the last seven months straight, the two have now switched spots again. This time, Google finished first, just ahead of Yahoo, much like it has for the last few years: Yahoo has topped comScore’s list for the last seven months, starting in July 2013. Before that, Yahoo was first way back in May 2011. As we’ve noted before, this was an impressive feat given that Yahoo’s numbers exclude Tumblr, which last month ranked at #37. This post originally appeared on the Buffer blog and has been republished with permission. Although there are some people who advocate for dropping all your goals or focusing on systems instead of goals, I’ve never managed to fully give up on setting goals for myself. In fact, I just finished my monthly review today, where I looked at how well I did on the goals I set for myself last month and set some new ones for the month ahead. As I was doing this, I started to wonder whether I was doing myself any favors by reviewing my progress monthly. I had a look…
