It may seem like Samsung is on a roll with its celebrity-endorsed selfies, but the company just met its match. According to The Wall Street Journal, the White House has objected to the way the smartphone maker has publicized a selfie photo of President Obama and Major League Baseball player David Ortiz. White House press secretary Jay Carney told the Journal: As a rule the White House objects to attempts to use the president’s likeness for commercial purposes…And we certainly object in this case. In case you missed it, here’s the original tweet with the photo: What an honor! Thanks for…

nest-nightlight
Nest CEO Tony Fadell has published a letter to customers informing them of a potential issue the company discovered with its Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm. The problem centers around the accidental activation of the Nest Wave feature, which disables the alarm when users wave their hands. As the issue is being addressed, Nest is halting sales of new Nest Protect alarms and turning off the feature for existing devices. Fadell expects it will take two to three months before Nest gets approval to reactivate the wave functionality. He added that he’s not aware of any customers experiencing…

Microsoft office
Microsoft today announced a change to how it handles adware, a form of malware that pushes unwanted advertisements to the user. As of July 1, the company’s security products will immediately stop any adware they detect and notify the user, who can then restore the program if they wish. Currently, when any of Microsoft’s security products (including Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft Forefront) detects a program as adware, it will alert the user and offer them a recommended action. If the user doesn’t do anything, the security product will let the program continue to run until the user makes a…

He is the author of a guide to building credibility online. This post originally appeared on the Busy Building Things blog and was edited by Robleh Jama. In a data-driven world, taste is one of the few qualities that manages to elude commodification. It’s also one of the most crucial assets that designers, product managers, developers, entrepreneurs, artists, and creators of all sorts will rely on in their work. Designer Barry Smith writes, “Your talent will never exceed your taste.” For anyone born without the natural inclination to taste, the challenge is in developing it. Diversity…

Tango Culture - Tango sign
Messaging app Tango announced today that it is integrating Zynga’s Words with Friends, making it easier for Tango users to play the game together within the app itself. This is the second chat app that gaming giant Zynga is working with as it tests the mobile messaging waters. In February this year, it built Words with Friends exclusively for the Kik Platform, after it brought One Word to Kik in July last year. Tango says the tie-up with Zynga is its first integration “with a game at this scale with millions of players.” However, it isn’t the messaging app’s first foray…
