Google was scheduled to open the ‘lottery’ for tickets to its upcoming Google I/O event in the early hours of today – April 8 — but it has pushed the dates back to make things “even easier” for those wanting to attend. (Recap: Google changed things this year — attendees register their interest, a lucky few are chosen to get tickets.) This last minute date change is almost certainly down to an issue somewhere, rather than simplification — as Android Police points out. Either way, now you’ll be able to register your interest between April 15-18, after which the attendees will be…

Microsoft Indroduces Chinese Version of XP
Microsoft’s support for two major products ends today: Windows XP and Office 2003. As a result, the company will no longer release security updates for either of the two, and it recommends users who still use either to get a newer version. If you’re wondering why April 8, 2014 is the date support for both of these products ends, it’s really quite simple. Microsoft releases regular patches on Patch Tuesday, the second Tuesday of every month. Microsoft supports its products for many years, and depending on when service packs as well as successors are released, the company eventually announces, in…

Adobe’s hotly anticipated Lightroom Mobile—the iPad version of its professional desktop photo management and editing software—has now arrived on the scene. But unlike Lightroom 5, you must be a Creative Cloud subscriber to use it. Lightroom 5 is the company’s only pro-level photography app that you can still purchase as a standalone perpetual license ($149), that is, without a Creative Cloud subscription. However, Lightroom 5.4, the update that features interoperability with Lightroom Mobile, is available only via Creative Cloud. Tying its mobile companion app to Creative Cloud will further pressure subscription holdouts to get with the program. Now, the cheapest way to get the…
