scoopit
We’ve tracked Scoop.it‘s progress as a curation platform for several years, and now the San Francisco-based company is launching a product aimed at helping large companies share ideas from across the Web both publicly and internally. After testing the ‘Knowledge Management’ solution with companies like car maker Renault-Nissan and insurance giant Generali, Scoop.it is now making it available more widely. Thousands of employees can collaborate to curate information and content they want to share. While the platform is being partially pitched as a way for companies to become ‘media outlets’ without having to necessarily create their own content, it’s perhaps more…

rakuten
Rakuten is furthering its international reach by partnering with First National Bank of Omaha to launch its first credit card in the US. The initiative is the first banking move that the company has made outside of its native Japan, where — aside from being the dominant e-commerce player — it counts financial services among its other businesses. The company — which recorded over $5 billion in revenue during 2013 – says that the Rakuten Rewards MasterCard, as the US card will be called, is part of a “global growth strategy” to expand its Japanese banking service worldwide, though, at this point, there are…

quora book
Question-and-answer site Quora is staking a strong claim for independence today with a n$80 million Series C funding round that will act as a form of insurance for the service as it scales up and prepares to expand internationally. The infusion of capital is intended to help Quora avoid the fate of high-profile startups, such as WhatsApp and Oculus VR, that have been acquired in spite of their expressed desire to remain independent. Tiger Global led the round, with existing investors Benchmark, Matrix, Northbridge and Peter Thiel joining in. Quora raised a $40 million Series B in May 2012 with…
