In line with Earth Day and as part of its latest environmental push, Apple has announced that it will take back any Apple product for free recycling. Apple has already been giving gift cards in exchange for used iPhones, iPads and Macs that are in good enough condition to be resold, while those deemed to have no monetary value will be recycled for free. Now this reuse and recycling program has been extended to all Apple products. As part of Tuesday’s Earth Day celebrations, Apple has greened some of the leaves of the logos at its retail stores and will have its…

Xiaomi Mi-3
Popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has ambitious plans to expand beyond Asia, and as part of its efforts to do so, it has simplified its website domain to Mi.com. “The new domain is simpler and more accessible to an international audience,” the company said. It added that the newly launched domain also gives a more succinct meaning to the “Mi” brand, which stands for Mobile Internet. Li Wanqiang, co-founder and VP of Xiaomi, revealed on Weibo that Xiaomi spent CNY3.6 million ($577,000) to purchase the Web domain. It makes sense for Xiaomi to make such a move, since its name isn’t particularly…

It added that the newly launched domain also gives a more succinct meaning to the “Mi” brand, which stands for Mobile Internet. It makes sense for Xiaomi to make such a move, since its name isn’t particularly easy to pronounce for those who don’t speak Chinese. So far, Xiaomi has only taken a first step beyond Greater China…

It may be low-tech, but it sure is cool. Photographers seeking the visual opulence of large format images, can now look forward to the Travelwide 4×5 Camera, a point and shoot-style film camera that promises pinpoint detail and huge tonal range. It will be available this summer. This lightweight, portable camera body, the product of a Kickstarter campaign by Wanderlust Cameras, has a high-impact unibody construction, but weighs in at a mere 9.7 ounces (275 grams). It’s small, though not super-compact, at 6.3×3.9×5 inches. It ships with a pinwide pinhole, focusing screen, metal sport viewfinder, and lens attachment tool. It also features a…

github
GitHub announced today the resignation of President, co-founder, and former CEO  Tom Preston-Werner following an investigation related to accusations of gender-based and sexual harassment from a former engineer. The firm noted that it found no evidence of “sexual or gender-based harassment or retaliation, or of a sexist or hostile work environment,” but it did find “evidence of mistakes and errors of judgment.” Preston-Werner has resigned in light of those errors. Preston-Werner published a blog post today explaining his departure and his plans to move into the field of immersive computing/virtual reality. In keeping with the GitHub statement, he did admit…
