Pinterest co-founder Evan Sharp is cool, calm and collected. He talks in a softened tone and all of his responses are carefully considered. Pinterest is exactly the same. Since the company launched its visual bookmarking service in 2010, it’s blossomed as an effortless way to capture, organize and share content online. But as the platform has matured, Pinterest has never strayed too far from its original vision. While some startups have tried to shoehorn the latest trends – private messaging being one of the most prominent – Pinterest has stuck to its guns, only iterating on its core features. Last week,…

BELGIUM-EU-INTERNET-ANTITRUST-BUSINESS-GOOGLE
Google Apps for Education users will no longer have their emails scanned for use in advertising, according to an announcement from the Internet giant earlier today. To recap, Apps for Education is used by K-12 schools around the world, and it delivers free online applications including Gmail, Docs, Spreadsheet and more. Around 30 million students, teachers and administrators use the service today, according to Google. Although Google has always disabled ads by default in Apps for Education, and ads were removed completely in Google Search last year for signed-in users, it was still possible to enable ads via the main…

There’s good news for Bitcoin news junkies after CoinDesk, a blog that has become one of the leading sources of information about cryptocurrencies, launched an iOS app. The app includes the company’s news stories and editorial, and also features its ‘Bitcoin Price Index’, a currency converter and price alert notifications. The latter feature is pretty nifty, and allows you to set an alert for when Bitcoin reaches a certain valuation – great if you are interested in investing when the market dips, or cashing out when it hits a high. CoinDesk says it is working on an Android app which will arrive in the…

China flag
China looks like it is finally dropping the hammer on Bitcoin after the Bank of China, China Construction Bank and top online payments company Tenpay released statements banning the withdrawal, sale or purchase of the virtual currency by their customers. The three statements — The Bank of China, China Construction Bank, and Tenpay (a PayPal-like service owned by Internet giant Tencent) — are the same. They are identical to statements made by other businesses of late, but on this occasion these three organizations are large, national entities, which makes their moves more impactful than other bans to date. A rough English translation of the statement is below:…

As we approach the end of another football (soccer, if you must…) season, and the World Cup is almost upon us, how do you plan to keep tabs on all the key moments in the vital games? Well, Score Alarm for Android is one option. Though there are other great apps for tracking specific events within each match such as One Football, and BBC Sport also recently rolled out push notifications for goals and results, Score Alarm goes the extra nine yards by letting you set alerts for red cards and lineup announcements across more than 540 leagues and tournaments…
