In Europe and the US, Oppo is an underdog. You won’t find its smartphones in a carrier store, or promoted with big-budget ads on TV. The Chinese firm just doesn’t command the same influence as Android rivals Samsung, Sony and HTC in these markets. Yet Oppo is making some inroads with the core Android community. The Find 5 (review) and N1 (review) were stellar handsets with attractive designs and competitive specs. It even partnered with CyanogenMod, a wildly popular Android ROM, for an exclusive version of the N1 last year. For its latest flagship smartphone, Oppo is offering two different…

OneDrive
Microsoft today updated its OneDrive service with four new features for its Web app as well as significant improvements to its Android app. You can check out the former at onedrive.live.com and the latter by getting the latest version from Google Play. First up, the Web app now has bigger thumbnails for your photos and videos. Microsoft has also added videos to the All Photos view, which should make it easier to find and watch your clips, but without a name change the category will be rather confusing. Microsoft says it has improved video playback in this release, but wouldn’t…

Argentina-born seed fund and accelerator NXTP Labs has joined forces with Mexico-based seed fund and mobile-focused corporate accelerator naranya*LABS to create a new early-stage fund that will invest at least $8 million in Mexico (disclosure: NXTP Labs is an investor in my company, MonoLibre). The announcement was made today in Miami during the first edition of the eMerge Americas conference. Part of the fund will come from public funding granted by Mexico’s National Entrepreneur Institute (INADEM). According to Naranya Ventures’ managing partner Pablo Salazar, the $8 million will be used to invest in 48 startups in Mexico, while also covering follow-on…
