The BBC has been upping the game for digital sports coverage in recent times, with the Olympic Games and its Winter counterpart showing what an all-encompassing, cross-platform broadcasting extravaganza can look like in an age of near-ubiquitous connectivity. And with the 2014 football World Cup in Brazil now almost a month away, the UK broadcaster has outlined its plans for the prestigious event. As with previous years, the BBC and ITV are splitting coverage roughly down the middle, but given the former’s multi-platform reach across Web, mobile/tablet apps, games consoles, connected TVs and Google Chromecast, it will be harder to…

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba’s long-awaited IPO is finally in progress after it submitted its prospectus on Tuesday, although the world is still no wiser about how much it will raise and which New York exchange it will list on. To promote World Environment Day on June 5, CarbonStory – a crowdfunding platform for environmental projects – partnered with marketing agencies BDDO and Proximity Singapore to create an interactive site called World Under Water. Powered by Google Maps and exclusive to Chrome, it lets you pick any Street View location and see what it will look like after sea levels have risen. The implementation is actually very simple. The site uses the same effect for every location and…

NokiaX_3-786x305
Nokia (/Microsoft) has launched the second device in its Android line after the Nokia XL, a larger version of its original Nokia X smartphone, went on sale across Asia and the Middle East for €109 (around $265). Like the Nokia X, the XL will not be sold in the US. The Nokia XL is much like its older sibling in terms of aesthetics, albeit that it has a five-inch screen, better quality cameras and dual-SIM support. The phone is powered by an updated version of Nokia X Platform, the company’s forked version of Android, which means it can run Android apps and Microsoft…
