Microsoft Makes $44.6 Billion Bid For Yahoo
Yahoo today launched image-rich native ads that are designed to be mobile-first. The company also emphasizes they are seamlessly integrated with surrounding content, targeted to the right consumer for even better results, and clearly marked as sponsored. The new ads are available through Yahoo Gemini, the company’s unified marketplace for advertisers dealing with mobile search and native advertising. The new ads will appear within users’ personalized content streams, as well as article pages and image galleries across Yahoo mobile and desktop products. Yahoo notes that more than half of its global monthly active users come to its sites on a…

da bomb
Send Anywhere is a different take on file-sharing for those who are looking for added security. The service takes cues from ephemeral services like Snapchat: each shared link is only available for 10 minutes before it self-destructs. The Korean service — which raised $1 million of funding from Rakuten today — first launched on Android in October 2012, before introducing a version for iOS. It also offers a web-based version. The service works by creating a temporary six digit code and QR code which recipients can use to access files sent to them, so long as they access the content within 10…

‘Selfie’ was Oxford Dictionaries’ word of the year in 2013, lending official credence to a craze that had sprung organically from bedrooms, bars and bus stops around the world. Apple’s App Store even featured ‘Selfies’ in a category of its own. Now, oSnap for iPhone is looking to simplify something that was already pretty simple, with a gesture-centric app that lets you take a picture by tapping anywhere on the screen.     To say it’s devoid of features would be an understatement. However, if you’re looking for something that lets you switch to front-facing camera (selfie mode) by shaking your…

Microsoft today extended the deadline for Windows 8.1 users to keep receiving security updates. The Windows 8.1 Update requirement has been moved up by about a month, from May 12 to June 10. Both days coincide with the day before their respective months’ Patch Tuesdays. Microsoft notes that while users with Automatic Update turned on have been receiving the Windows 8.1 Update over the last few weeks, many still haven’t received the update. While the company doesn’t say so explicitly, it’s clear not enough users have manually upgraded yet. “We’re confident that within the next month, the majority of the…
