In addition to all the developer-focused news at its TechEd North America 2014 conference today, Microsoft has also made several IT Pro announcements around Office 365. The company is planning to offer encrypted storage via a feature codenamed Fort Knox, mobile device management Android and iOS phones, as well as data loss protection (DLP) in SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business. First off, the company’s latest encryption feature will start rolling out to Office 365 business customers beginning in July. FireChat, a messaging app that launched to quite some fanfare in March this year, lets you talk anonymously to people around you even without an internet connection. To make this happen, it uses Apple’s Multipeer Connectivity Framework in iOS 7, while on Android it makes use of its own mesh networking technology. Today, a new version has landed on both iOS and Android devices, which lets users create what’s known as “firechats” — basically groups on different topics. ‘Europe’s Nest’ Tado takes to kickstarter for its next project: A smart cooling system for your home

Tado, the Munich-based maker of a smart central heating system not totally unlike NEST, is introducing the world to a brand-new follow-up product called Tado Cooling. However, rather than going down traditional funding conduits the company is taking to Kickstarter, and it will begin production if its goal of $150,000 is reached within 30 days.
