Autodesk introduces Spark, an open-source printing platform and hardware

The 3D printing world is still in its infancy. Tons of different printers use various techniques to create physical objects. Autodesk wants to push the market forward with its open-source Spark initiative. Autodesk CEO Carl Bass says that the Spark platform will be a more reliable, yet simpler way to to print 3D models. In addition to the platform, Autodesk will release its own 3D printer reference design and hardware. While adding another printer to the already crowded market doesn’t seem that exciting, making its platform and printer open and freely licensable to hardware manufacturers could encourage companies to build their own printers….

VUDU adds an UltraViolet sharing option so up to five friends can watch your movies and shows

Walmart’s video-on-demand service VUDU has just launched “Share My Movies,” a new feature that lets you share UltraViolet-licensed digital content with up to five friends. To activate Share My Movies, you’ll need to input your friends’ email addresses. Once they create a login to VUDU, they’ll be able to view your library. VUDU will support up to three simultaneous streams for your account. Citymapper adds Boston and Washington DC to its Android app for public transport directions

Citymapper has added Boston and Washington DC to the latest update of its Android app, which offers detailed directions for getting around a city via public transportation. The two new cities join Citymapper’s existing coverage of London, Paris, Berlin and New York. The app draws on data from the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), Massachusetts Bap Transport Authority, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and DC Circulator to flesh out its maps. With real-time information for walking, cycling, subway, bus, cabs, trains, trams and ferries, Citymapper bills itself as the “most comprehensive A to B journey planner.” So far, it looks…

Evernote for Windows now offers a Presentation Mode, just like the Mac and iOS apps

After its introduction in the Mac and iOS apps, Evernote today updated its its Windows client with a Presentation Mode. Similar to its implementation for Apple hardware, the feature lets you convert any of your notes into a full-screen design that’s beautiful, consistent and easy to read. A version that’s suitable for the boardroom, your boss or lecturer, in short. The app will intelligently pick out the content in each of your notes, so you can easily hit the space bar and have each section displayed sequentially. Microsoft updates Windows Phone 8.1 Preview with bug fixes and battery life improvements

Microsoft today released the first update to Windows Phone 8.1 Preview for Developers. If you’re a developer or enthusiast in the program, you can get the new version (build number 8.10.12382.878) by going to Settings on your device, then Phone Update, and tapping “check for updates.” Unfortunately, Microsoft wouldn’t share what exactly is new in this release. The company merely says the update includes “several improvements based on the feedback we’ve received” and that it is “happy to be rolling it out after just one month.” We have contacted Microsoft to learn exactly what’s new.
