Connect6°, a platform for discovering and contacting people, has launched a Chrome extension which allows you to look-up a person’s publicly available information with virtually no effort. In essence, it’s a little like the Riffle Chrome extension we looked at recently, except that it doesn’t focus on showing Twitter activity stats, and is instead geared towards a more professional audience that wants an easy way to discover people’s contact details and social accounts. Right now, the company says it works across Google search results, Facebook, Twitter, HootSuite, Salesforce, Gmail (and other cloud-based email platforms), LinkedIn and other “popular websites”. It said…

The Solid conference in San Francisco is a two-day hardware event showcasing what’s new and exciting in the world of tangible items. After years of worshiping at the feet of software, hardware development is making a come back. Some of the reasons that hardware development is on the upswing is the wider acceptance of 3D printing and the ability to quickly prototype items with hardware from Littlebits, Arduino and Raspberry Pi. A nice byproduct is the resurgence of robots at events. We found five robots that could potentially make our lives not only easier, but also safer. And of course,…

If you’re using Google Now with an Android device, it’s now possible to create and confirm a new reminder with your vocal chords alone. While it was possible to create a voice reminder before, the following screen that listed Google Now’s interpretation – when and where the alert would occur, as well as the specified message – required you to confirm it with a quick tap. Microsoft today confirmed the rumors of a new edition of its latest operating system by unveiling Windows 8.1 with Bing. The company says the main purpose of the new SKU is to allow its hardware partners to sell lower-cost Windows devices; the first ones with the new edition will be announced next month at Computex in Tapei. Windows 8.1 with Bing is exactly like Windows 8.1 with the recently released Windows 8.1 Update, with one major difference: Bing is set as the default search engine in Internet Explorer. Users can still change that option in IE’s search engine settings, but…
