Hands-on with The Order: 1886, the steampunk-inspired PS4 shooter that’s now slated for 2015

theorder1886-2
PlayStation developer Ready at Dawn has pushed back its alternate-history shooter, The Order:1886, until an early 2015 release. The game had previously been touted as one of the key exclusives this year for the PS4. The Order: 1886 follows a group of elite soldiers in a fictionalized version of 19th-century London. Members of The Order fight against monsters and humans with the help of a substance called “Blackwater” that prolongs their lives, heals them and gives them special powers. We sat down for a quick hands-on with The Order at a Sony pre-E3 event earlier this month. The game certainly…

BBC-645x250
More than 12 months after its initial debut, the BBC today updated its iPlayer app for Windows Phone 8 with a long-awaited feature: Live TV. It’s bizarre to think that this wasn’t available before, but starting today Lumia device owners can download the app and watch their favorite channels live over the internet. The latest version also includes an adaptive bitrate player, so video playback should remain buttery-smooth regardless of the viewer’s connection. The BBC says its upgraded iPlayer app should be more stable than the previous version and work with a wider range of Windows Phone devices – although…

US-IT-TELECOM-TRANSPORT-TAXI
With just over two weeks before a planned protest by London taxi drivers, Uber has issued a statement defending the way its private car service is operated in the capital. “London cabbies are iconic – arguably the best taxis in the world,” Rose Johnson, marketing and community manager for Uber said. “However, there is room for all and there is room for more and better. We are bringing competition to an industry that hasn’t evolved in years.” The London Taxi Drivers Association (LTDA) has taken issue with the way Uber calculates its fares. The company is licensed as a private hire…

Twitter Goes Public On The New York Stock Exchange
Marketing research firm eMarketer has released its first-ever forecast of Twitter users worldwide, and projects that the social network will have nearly 400 million users by 2018, with over 40 percent of them in the Asia-Pacific region. By the end of this year alone, the Asia-Pacific region will account for 32.8 percent of all Twitter users, exceeding its 23.7 percent share in North America, according to eMarketer’s estimates. This is despite a ban on the social networking site in China, which has one of the region’s largest portion of internet users. eMarketer notes that if China opens up to Twitter…

Adidas miCoach Smart Ball uses sensors and a companion app to help you ‘bend it like Beckham’

Adidas today launched the miCoach Smart Ball, a football (or soccer ball, for our American readers) that it claims can coach you to take better free-kicks, penalties, long passes, shots and corners. Inside is a small, suspended bundle of sensors that analyze the ball as it moves through the air. Adidas then combines this data with some fancy algorithms to work out where you hit the ball, as well as the speed, bend and trajectory of the kick. The technology-equipped ball then sends this information to a companion iPhone app over Bluetooth Low Energy, so you can review all of the…
