At a “Voice of the Body” event today in San Francisco, Samsung president and chief strategy officer Young Sohn announced the company’s vision of an open health-sensor platform. That vision results in the Simband modular wrist band. The demonstration Simband device shown at the event showed vitals in real-time. The wrist band uses light sensors and bio impedance sensors to measure your body. The information tracked is shared with the SAMI cloud network. The entire system is open to developers and modular. By creating an open developer platform that includes modular hardware and adding the SAMI cloud data processing Samsung says that…

Barriers to entry: How to build a startup that has an unfair advantage

Andrej Kiska is an Associate at Credo Ventures. The team, the product and the size of the market: these three ingredients are typically preached to us as the key to a successful startup. Daryl Lang is the Managing Editor for the Shutterstock Blog. This post was originally published on the Shutterstock blog and has been adapted with permission. Recently, I started to create an animated GIF in Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud and found myself totally lost. I had learned how to work with animations using an older version of Creative Suite, but with my recent upgrade to CC, Photoshop’s excellent animation tools seemed to have vanished. I searched and struggled and cussed at my monitor before finally asking a colleague for help. This post is meant to spare you that frustration. If you’re an occasional…

Write brings its gorgeous, minimalist note-taking app to the Mac

I’ve tried a variety of note-taking apps on my iPhone, but Write is easily one of my favorites. The uncluttered menu system and lightweight writing experience are fantastic when you just want to knuckle down and really focus. Now, Write is available for Mac. The product is going up against popular cross-platform apps such as Evernote, Simplenote and Byword, hoping that its focus on design and simplicity will attract new users. Write for Mac You can select multiple destinations to store your notes; Write supports iCloud – the optimal solution if you want to share notes between devices – as…
