Google begins detailing email encryption rates in its Transparency Report

Google revealed today that it has added a new Safer Email section to its Transparency Report in order to document the percentage of outbound and incoming Gmail messages that are encrypted. According to the company, 65 percent of Gmail messages sent to other email providers over the past 30 days were encrypted during transit. Meanwhile, 50 percent of messages from other providers sent to Gmail accounts employed Transport Layer Security (TLS). The report also highlighted the top domains sending to and receiving from Gmail and their respective encryption rates. Amazon’s marketing email service is the top inbound domain, while AOL.com…

Google launches Chrome extension End-to-End for sending and receiving encrypted emails in the browser

Google today launched a new Chrome extension called End-to-End for sending and receiving emails securely. As its name implies, the security tool provides end-to-end encryption: data leaving your browser will be encrypted until the message’s intended recipient decrypts it, and encrypted messages sent to you will remain that way until you decrypt them in your browser. It’s worth noting that anyone can use End-to-End to send and receive end-to-end encrypted emails through their existing Web-based email provider. Google to drop Internet Explorer 9 support in AdWords on June 30, 2014

Google today announced it will be dropping support for Internet Explorer 9 in AdWords at the end of the month. On June 30, 2014, IE users will only be able to access the service with IE10 or IE11. For those who don’t know, AdWords lets you places ads above, beside, or below Google search results. The service supports the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, IE, and Safari.
