Shawndra Russell is a writer and social media educator for businesses, professionals and college students with the intent of stopping outdated me! me! me! marketing. This post originally appeared on the 15five blog. We exist in two different worlds, the virtual and the real. Some of us spend more time on our social networks than in the physical realm. Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and others have changed the way we live and work forever. Just ask your IT department how much time employees spend liking and tweeting the day away. But worry not business leaders, because there is a way that…

A view of Facebook's logo May 10, 2012 i
Facebook today announced it has started rolling out the streamlined desktop look for Pages to everyone worldwide. All Pages should have access to the new design by the end of the week. Admins accessing their Pages today will see a tour of the refreshed design, and after completing it, they can switch to the new design right away. Every Page will automatically switch to the updated design two weeks after the tour has been viewed. Facebook began pushing the new design in March, with the biggest change being that all posts are now in one column, just like on user…

Microsoft overhauls Bing’s music video discovery with a dynamic carousel

Microsoft today overhauled Bing’s music video discovery system with a dynamic carousel. Searching for an artist will show you their top songs, and you can also browse by album, all without leaving the page. Clicking on a song showcases a high-quality video in the upper left of the results: This update has been in development for “the past several months,” and the company says it was driven by the fact that searching for music videos is fundamentally different than searching for other types of video. Microsoft’s search session data showed the company when people search for music videos “they tend…

After denying reports that it was winding down the hardware side of its FuelBand business, Nike has suddenly announced a new, limited edition color variant of its Nike+ FuelBand SE fitness tracker. The premium gold design follows the ‘rose gold‘ and silver variants in Nike’s slickly-designed Metaluxe collection. To be honest, the gold and ‘rose gold’ options look almost exactly the same – at a glance you would be hard pressed to tell them apart – so it’s hardly the boldest move by Nike. If you’re interested though, the ‘Gold Nike+ FuelBand SE METALUXE’ (that’s becoming quite a mouthful) will be available…

In the wake of the slew of software announcements at WWDC this week, you may have missed one of the more notable gems to emerge from the annual developer event: third-party keyboards are going system-wide on iOS. This spells good news for the likes of SwiftKey, Swype and Fleksy, as it opens a huge new market for them. Now, however, Fleksy has given a first glimpse of what its keyboard app looks like on the next version of Apple’s mobile OS, posting this image to its Twitter account of the app running on the iOS 8 APIs, alongside the message:…
